Hi all,

I was wondering what exactly is going on in Asia. Japan is pretty well covered, what
with the megacorps controlling the country, but what is happening in China? The only clues
I can find are that the Triads are all-powerful, and that the provinces have become
autonomous, with independent governments. But other than that nothing has been said.
Anybody find anything else? If all else fails, I could just write my own material, but I
was hoping the creators had something in mind when they wrote this game.

peace,

Mike

The impression I've long had, is that FASA, back in the late '80s when they
were writing the initial version of SR, had a fairly good idea of what
they wanted to do with Seattle and certain other parts of North America,
but otherwise just filled in the rest of the world with stuff that looked
interesting and at least semi-believable.

I also recall that their old policy in the days of the Neo-Anarchists
books was to have locals write the location pieces for them to adapt.
At least that is what they said at their seminar before NAGNA came out.

Ancient cultures believed that names held great power,
personal names more so and they were guarded very closely.
To protect themselves, they answered to another name,
because if another discovered their real name,
it could be used against them.
History repeats itself.

Shame about the UK then... even if they picked some locals, the locals
really didn't figure the place out.

Old gripe, not sure if it's been addressed or ever will be.

Don't feel bad, Paul...though it probably won't be fixed.

They utterly messed up New Jersey in NAGNA. Pardon me, but I wanted to vomit after I saw
what they did to the Jersey Shore. Course, that's partially local pride speaking.

Speaking of which, I should probably resume getting SR books soon, especially since my
last ones were T:AL and T:W, so I don't have anything like SoNA or SotA...

There's actually a fair bit of canon information on China and South East Asia about. The
only problem is that it's squirreled away over a large number of different books. I used
to be fairly interested in the area so I'll have a root around try and find some stuff for
you. It'll probably take a couple days whilst life intervenes though. :)

For that matter - I grew up in a house that is located where NAGNA claims
Thomas Jefferson International Airport is located in the Washington DC area
- an airport that has no chance of being built (since houses are there now)
and doesn't need to be given that BWI exists.

You are talking about 12+ years ago here now, though -- a lot can (and
does) change in that kind of time. However, for example, Shadows of Europe
was mostly written by people from the countries described in the book, so
it at least follows that same policy.

Okay, well it seems that I got a little carried away and the mail I tried to
post to the list was too big and got bounced. Or at least isn't being let
through until an admin looks at it. :o/

If whoever started the thread is still looking for the information on China
and Asia, e-mail me at A_93687@*******.com and I'll send it to you direct.
