Hey all. I tried to post this a while back, but I don't think it ever went
through-- it was right around the time that my ISP developed a serious and
unexplained grudge towards all things Dumpshock.

Anyway, I have a PBEM that's set in Hong Kong. I'd really like some good
critters and even metavariants that I could use in the game, preferably
things out of Chinese mythology and folklore. Does anyone have any
suggestions? For that matter, does anyone have a copy of AD&D Oriental
Adventures or Kara-Tur that they could pull a few ideas from?

For metavariants, I was thinking maybe the kappa... the evil Ninja Turtles
with water on the brain...

Thanks!

Panda Piamsa? :)

Dan, I assume you want us folks acutally in the PBEM to ignore this
thread?

And what about Legend of the Five Rings, would that have some decent
ideas in it? Not that I have, it, mind you, but someone out there might.

Maybe you want to check out the Oriental Sourcebooks for teh World of
Darkness. There's a tonne of stuff in those.

If you need examples, contact me off list and I'll list a few.

Better yet - watch some Manga!

Heya. I'm new to the list and am also on the L5R RPG listserv (hence the
e-mail). I plan to start GMing SR soon and I know I need a place to answer
core rule questions, so where better than on an SR listserv?

Anyways, the L5R books contain more critters along the lines of oni, goblins,
and more Japanese myth creatures. I don't know if nezumi (rat men) were
Chinese inspired.. I think the dragons in L5R were Chinese-inspired, but I
don't think you'll throw a dragon at your PCs.

Now that would be interesting... :)

Actually it's not a really big deal... I mean if I threw anything at you
from Critters, you'd have a pretty good idea of what it was, but it could
still be pretty nasty. No sweat.
