I've been lurking around rec.games.frp.cyber and this list for
quite some time now and I can't seem to understand why some (a lot?)
of people out there who shudder at the word "Chummer". I've read comments
like "Chummer? People have never talked like that and they NEVER will."
Well, IMO that's sort of a lame argument or at the very least premature.
I guess it would be very hard for people living in the 1920s or the
Victorian Era to "accept" words like "Groovy", "Hip" or
"Cool" but why
all this "chummer" bashing?

I'm just intrigued and I apologize if this seems "off topic"...

Hey chummer <grin> you'd be surprised, I find myself doing it all the
time, it's a bad habit I really ought to stop...

Now Choombatta, that's a really stupid soungind word.. <g>

While I'm here though, I have a collection of slang words and their
definitions 'borrowed' from CPunk, the SR1 rules, a couple of books,
(Gibson, Williams, etc) thatI'll put up if anyonw wants it... If you're
really good, then I might even get rid of all the ^M's my IBM will put
on it :-)

Phil (Renegade)

EXAMPLE :-

BWANT (Noun) :- Big Weapons And No Tactics, a SR group that started
and pretty soon therafter finished in Seattle. Famed
for their twin mini-gun fire-support section, and their
lack of tactical ability.
(Verb) :- To BWANT someone is now common company parlance replacing
the antiquated TWEP (Terminate With Extreme Prejudice).
Also used on the streets to describe an act of incredible
mindless violence.
Fumigate :- A BWANT-ing in qhich there were no survivors (a surprisingly
uncommon occurence for a BWANT mission, due to their habit
of all jsing the same entrance, rahter than sealing all
their victim's escape routes).

I wouldn't mind seeing it.

I kinda like the SR terms. Gives some sort of feel for the gameworld, I
guess. Maybe they don't sound so bad to me because English is not my native
language? Dunno.

I've had to do some headscratching at terms like IMHO, and so on, though.
Still don't know what it means. Guess I'm not a real geek...

Hey, Phil (Renegade)! BWANT me anyday with them slang words! Post 'em
please!
Or mail me.

Thanks!

I'm trying to teach my PCs Japanese and have them use it on a semi-regular
basis. It REALLY adds to the game.

Hey, no offense, chummer. I was wondering (as I speak spanish and
have read the Shadowrun _both_ in English and Spanish) how they could
possibly translate "chummer"... ! Maybe 'chabon'?
