One idea mentioned was creating a clone so that a person could
transfer themselves to the clone and gain immortality.

Based on cybertechnology I believe that it's possible. If they can
replace your torso and limbs with cyberware, they can transplant your
brain to another body.

However, you haven't reversed the aging process of the brain. If a
person does this at the age of 40, they still have a 40 year old
brain. They could replace thier body every 20 years but their brain
would continue to age.

I don't know how long a brain will live under these circumstances,
but I would guess that it'd give out at around 120 years.

Of course this won't stop the really rich from living the life of a
20 year old :)

My take on Clones and Immortality uses magic to transfer the "aura" or
soul, or whatever label you care to stick on it, from the old body to a
cloned one. This is only possible because (A) The body and brain are in
all ways identical to the one the Aura is accustomed to, and (B) The cloned
body has been kept within a warded area since the time of its inception,
thus preventing the random imprinting of its own aura that exposure to raw
astral space would produce. This serves to keep the cloned mind "blank",
and amiable to being overwritten by another aura.
A spell designed expressly for this task, called "Soul Tunnel" exists
for
use by the wealthy and powerful.
The main drawback is that clones must be handy for use in the transfer,
which means preparing for things years in advance. I have a chart for
fast-grown clones, but the minimum is a year, and that results in a low
base essence (cell damage caused by forced-growth). I don't feel like
digging it up, but it's something like 3.0 essence for a 1 year, 4.0 for a
2 year, 5.0 for a five year, 5.5 for a 10 year, and 6 essence only if you
allow normal time for maturity, say 18 years.
The ward must be maintained continually until the clone is needed, or the
aura will be "corrupted" by astral noise, and begin developing its own
(albeit infant-level) personality. Likewise, there are free spirits who
love nothing better than to jump into these empty vessels, gaining a flesh
body for themselves free of Karma charge. Hospitals and Doc wagon keep
their tissue/clone banks warded and under astral guard.

I don't have a signature yet, just call me "Hey You!"

Anybody remember FreeJack with Charlie Sheen (or what that Emilio)
anyway, the plot thread is similiar. Except the rich guy, steals
a body from earlier in time, so that he can take it over.
Once again the issue is how is memory, concsiousness etc transferred.

Nope, sorry :) Similar, but not identical. The old body will have
little scars from the "traumas" of life, in addition to major scaring
from serious injuries. Also, the old body has been exposed to
ultraviolet radiation, polution, carcinogens, Barney, etc. This may
or may not affect the attempt of a transfer.

The brain is a biochemical organ. Each cell "learns" it's job.
Chemical pathways are imprinted on the brain by life experiences.
Behaviour and reactions are learned. The differences between the old
brain and the cloned brain are vast. The cloned brain will have no
memories, no personality. You may be able to transfer the lifeforce,
but transfering the person is going to take some wiz magic.

Hmmm.. I wonder if Bull could be exorcised... <winks
