Thank's to Tim Kerby's SR clearance sale, I got a couple of new books
in the mail today.

BTW, Tim told me to tell the list that anyone who's reached an
agreement for him about his books could go ahead and send their
payments in, he is shipping the books right out. I figure I've already
spent more than the rest of you combined, and I was absolutely
satisfied with the quick turnaround, and condition the books arrived
in.

So, now that the Public Service Announcement is over, I'd like to ask
the list the following:

What SR products do you think qualify as "Rare, Hard-to-Get,
Must-Haves" for the _rabid_ Shadowrun collector?

I've thought about it for a bit, and watched what products cause other
listmember's eyes to glaze over when the discussion turns to them, and
here's my list so far:

The hardback printings of the three different editions of the core
rulebook.
Shadowbeat.
Harlequin.
Universal Brotherhood.

What other SR products do you all think should be included in the list
of "Rare, Hard-to-Get, Must-Haves"?

The TIR books are a quite hard to find ... 3rd edition hardback ...
some of the early adventures and a couple of the 1st edition
sourcebooks like the Grimoire (only seen it once so i bought it), VR
1.0 ... NAGRL is a hard one to ...

Hardbacks of the first and second edition where really easy to find.
Had no problem locating them at all. Second hand ofcause, but still
in extremely good condition.

Ahh Harlequin that is a REALLY hard one .. could be cause it is imho
one of the best SR adventures ever written.

There is only one book that is hard to get:

3rd edition hardcover.

That statement will not match what many others may say; but it's all out there
for sale on eBay and several online Used Gaming Products stores.

I sold my entire Shadowrun Collection in late 1996. I started buying SR again
in august or so of last year. I now own every single out of print book save
a few modules that don't interest me (to include Harlequin and Universal Brotherhood).
If I wanted the few remaining items I could buy them on eBay. There's almost
always 2 or 3 copies of each going for auction there.

It's just a matter of price. And if you really want it; you'd be willing to
pay.

Not to contradict you, but I have seen 3rd edition Hardcover on eBay before
(only once, but it was there). It went for over a hundred dollars, but I
don't think the price really matters. A lot of people who weren't at GenCon
would lay down serious cash for that book. Personally, I'd never sell mine,
and I think that's the view of most others. But you will run into the
occasional collector who needs cash or is jumping the industry for greener
pastures. So keep an eye to the boards. You never know.

Wow. I'm boggled that my original post actually made it out to the
rest of the list.

Anyway, I'm not just talking about rulebooks. I'm talking about any
SR product.

Stuff like the European prequel novels to Worlds Without End
(Admittedly, those are actually Earthdawn products, but they deal
directly with Shadowrun characters).

The rumored Shadowrun Manga from Japan (_if_ it even exists).

Mint copies of flyers and promotional material (like the flier for
the Shadowrun: Assassin computer game that FASA Interactive was
working on until they got bought out by Microsoft).

Obscure lead miniatures like the "Dunky Humping Nadja" figurine that
Grenadier made but was pulled off the market (Alright, this is
actually _NOT_, repeat _NOT_ a real SR product, but a gag paraphrased
from Kevin Smith's "Clerks." comic book, but you get the idea).

<<Snip: 2-3 copies of anything are always up on e-bay>>
:It's just a matter of price. And if you really want it; you'd be
:willing to pay.

Ah, E-bay, the great treasure trove! It is true that every SR
sourcebook shows up on there sooner or later. I've noticed though,
that there are a few books that when they show up, almost always seem
to sell for at least around twice their cover price (and that's the
just usual price if there isn't a huge bidding war over it). Even
though invariably, another copy of the same product will pop up for
auction at some later date.

While a categorization of "hard to get" or "must have" is ultimately
subjective, I'd say that if demand for those products is consistently
high enough that people pay at least twice cover price for a used
book, it's probably a safe assumption that quite a few SR collectors
do consider that particular title "hard to get" or "must have". Even
with the title being regularly available on E-bay.

You mean "scars" and "little treasure" ? where those even released ?
I have never seen or found them but I would really REALLY like to.

Not that I fancy the writing of Caroline that much but mainly cause
it is a gaping hole in my collection.

Like the little plastic passcards you got in the Denver box ? they
where really funny :)

These are hard to find? Yeah, I guess they would be...they were
all over the place at Gen Con last year.

There's also the foreign language SR books (I have the France
Sourcebook, but no others).

One hard-to-find item that makes my little completionist heart
glad is a set of seven SR election press passes that were apparently
given to press types at the Gen Con where Dunk's death was announced.
Not *products* specifically, but definitely a nice piece of
Shadowruniana.

WHAT?!?? Please, someone grab me one copy of all the SR Manga
you can get your hands on! I spent a couple of days trying to track
it down about a year ago, but my Japanese wasn't good enough to figure
out how to order it.

Oh, no! Mea culpa! Bad clip job! <Rat slaps own hand>

I just meant that the Assassin flyers were all over at Gen Con.
I've never even *seen* the SR Manga.

Sorry to get you going, there...

Actually, if you read closely, I'd say Rat is just talking about
promotional fliers like Shadowrun: Assassin flyer being all over the
place at GenCon. Not the Manga and the fliers.

And yes, for those of us who won't/can't schedule vacation time from
work and fly halfway across a continent (or even further for those
not in North America) GenCon stuff is hard to find for the rest of
us. :)

Arr, never been to a GenCon, so I wasn't sure. Hey, better
safe than sorry. I had heard that getting a BABY last year could be
done by begging listmembers, so I didn't want to miss out on SR Manga
if this was the case. :) Been trying to find it for years now.

If anyone out there does know how to get a copy of the manga
though, I am very interested. I could possibly be convinced to give
up my UB, Lone Star, or Harlequin, in addition to cash (I don't know
how much manga was made). Consider it a standing offer, but anything
out of my SR collection is doable. (I'm missing, umm, the hardcovers,
DMZ, Threats and some modules. Gave away my SR1 GM Screen.)

Mark
