In keeping with some of the posts that have been going around, I though I
would post a hilarious thing that happened to me.

RJ, my troll street samaurai, was Aussie assaulting a building(with
another troll buddy). For those who don't know, this is basically running
down the side of the building, with a rope and harness. This is faster
than the usual way of going down the side of the building, and it was
easier than trying to climb up it.

ANyway, we crashed through the balcony window and door, and shot up some
gaurds that were inside. A thorough seach of the apartment revealed that
it was empty except for the guards. We were leaving, when we were
confronted by an insect spirit! (A praying mantis no less) I jumped on
it, while my friend put together his combat axe(it was disassembled for
easier carrying). After one whack with the axe, it decided to leave. It
went astral, somehow taking me with it!! My characters cyberware felt
like it was ripping out of his body.

The mantis came out of astral space outside the building and heaved me
off. My character was seven stories up!

I made a nice dent in the sidewalk, almost taking a cab out, as well as a
few pedestrians. My character looked up, focused on the nearest person
and said, "I'm a professional, don't try this at home", as the darkness
claimed him.

Probably the best way any of my characters have died!

Gee... we've got a slang word for abseiling named after us? I'm scared...

*smirk* Reminds me of another good one, though... After a massive
three-way fire fight on the 40th floor of this building, there's a large
hole in the wall, and the last guy on the other side is standing next to
it. Being a mage, with a levitate spell, he jumps out, as I make the roll
and determines he can stop himself anywhere below 'bout the 20th floor.

The PC mage is so furious that the guy's getting away, he damn near jumps
out after him... but he didn't know levitate. :)

Actually the technique is known as the "Australian Rappel". Our army gu=
ys
were the first ones crazy enough to make it standard proceedure. You ou=
ght
to try it at night.. The first you know about the ground being close if=
you
aren't paying attention is the contact your nose makes. Yes, it hurts, =
and
yes you learn to pay attention to your rope thereafter.
