I wrote this last week, but no one remarked on it. Thought I'd run it
past you all one last time... I've altered it a bit.

Another local ruling we made before the Grimoire came out, and which makes
much more sense (in our opinion) than FASA's rule, is that you _can't_ travel
astrally through waters of the living earth. I mean, that stuff is crammed
full of microbes and bacteria for a start, and is _at least_ as alive as
`living rock'.

(If you could, it means that either an astral being could separate the astral
form from the meat form (by pushing), or that astral bodies can mingle and
flow through each other (which opens up other possibilities).)

This decision also makes mages less than godlike, since by taking
to scuba, mundanes can avoid their otherwise inescapable purview. Not to
mention Sendings, etc.

Only water spirits and elementals have the ability to move through it
(and fish! :-) ), much like earth elementals can with living rock.

I quoted it in case everyone forgot it in the Psi rush.

I think its quite a good idea, except that doesnt the air contain lots of
little microbes and shit as well. Not as much as the ocean, but surely
enought to block a mage in the same way?

[My suggestion about similarity of living earth and living water deleted]

I confess I hadn't thought of that. Certainly, though, there are far more
microbes present in water than in air, and the average size of a
water-living microbe is much, much larger than one in air. I believe in
air, they actually live and travel in tiny water droplets.

And perhaps the air could be seen as containing sufficiently well-spaced
microbes that the astral form can stream around it.

At the very least, because of the crowded seas (bacterially speaking),
travelling in water should be like travelling through a pea-soup fog.

And the oceans and seas feel to me to have a massive aural presence;
more like a living thing than the air is. (Ask any sailor.) So I'd
argue on this basis that water should be treated more like rock than
air, as far as astral travel.

yeah, i spose you could look at it that way, but i feel if you put out water
for the reasons you are then air is still so close to in the same vote that
it would have to go as well. That would upset the Astral system rather a lot.
