One for the GMs: what kinds of things do you find yourself saying all
the time to your players? I think my own most frequently used quotes
must be:

* "Roll Initiative."
* "What Force?"
* "What damage?"
* "Roll Perception."
* "That's Intelligence, yes."
* "You need <number> <target number>s" (like: "You need four
threes")
* "And what where your other rolls?" (when someone says "I got 11, 8 and
7" when rolling something like ten dice)
* "Only the highest roll counts here."
* "No." (Usually followed by an explanation of why something doesn't
apply at this time :)

I ask because after playing my first laptop-enhanced RPG session
yesterday (I bought a MacBook about a week ago) and soon found a use for
the "say" command in the terminal :)

"You can try" (in response to the "can I ______" question)
"Roll. Impress me."
"Roll. Just don't mess up."

You know you can specify the voice used in the say command. Can be
quite funny with the right saying/voice combination. And if you can
ssh into another machine you can cause it to say things to. Nice way
to pretend to have an intercom between two rooms.

I have a few years of using Linux under my belt, so I know how useful
man can be ;)

Using "Hysterical" didn't quite work as intended when you have the
computer say "let me go!" when the players are abducting someone. I
thought it'd sound like she was being hysterical, but it sounded more
like she was laughing too much (which was, of course, to be expected).
The problem is that most of the voices sound too computery to really
work. A secondary problem is that they're all Americans, so the
usefulness is a bit limited when trying to make it speak Dutch. If I
could find a way to properly pronounce G and CH (hard and soft guttural)
it'd be a lot more useful :)

The only other computer where we normally play is an elderly Windows XP
machine on the other side of the room, so I'm not going to try that
trick on it :)
