|I agree with apparently most of the other people who have posted on this
|subject, if the group gets off on beating innocents then they should pay
|the price.
I prefer, "characters should suffer the consequences of
their actions." The subtle difference between this
statement and what you said is that characters should pay
the price for any action. Whatever action they carry out,
whether it be "good" or "bad" there should be a reasonable
reaction. I really hate games where if the characters do
"good" they get money and XP, whereas I feel the
roleplaying aspect of doing "good" should be emphasized
(high reputation, respect of other "good" people, contempt
of "bad" people, etc). It just seems to me that if a PC
does something "bad" GMs have no problem figuring out the
results in complex roleplaying terms, but "good" actions
result in the most basic of rewards. Just my two pence.
BTW, a lot of pain in ass crap can result from doing "good"
(everyone suddenly has high expectations of the characters
and failure can result in overwhelming dissapointment,
kinda like when Kathy Lee Gifford found out she was the
proud owner of sweat shops.
