Ok, since I'm the resident conspiracy theory expert as of late, here goes...

First off, Dunkie wasn't killed... He managed to get ahold of the
Doppleganger Project that Renraku had been working on (from the first book
of teh Secrets of Power Trilogy), and he also, being a Greater Dragon, can
occasionally see glimpses of the future, and knew what was coming, so he
created a Doppleganger of himself that was blown up. Dunkie's now living
in Tibet, waiting for the CEO of Renraku to show up so he can have a light
snack.

The actual assasination attempt was pulled off by Aztechnology, with the
help of the summoned horror Vejigorm, Destroyer of Dragons.

reconstruction of it:

The Quartzrock File

A brief Timeline

2033 Damien Knight pulls his infamous Nanosecond buyout with the
support of Aztechnology. In return for peeks at Ares excellent weapon
development, ATC grants Knight a look at some of the lower level blood
magic rituals, and other magic developments. The EI, unaware of Knight's
ties to ATC, examine him as a possible ally, given his obvious business
acumen. Neither ATC or the EI realise that Knight is in fact an anima, a
player, albeit an extremely powerful one

2036 Through connexions within the EI, Knight gains a meeting with
Dunkelzahn. Dunkelzahn gains the first account of ATC blood magic, and
begins to plot. Knight, in return for his indiscretion, gains more magical
knowledge, and a dose of Karma. D remains the only person who knows
Knight's true nature.

2040s Dunkelzahn, through enormous machinations, becomes the power behind
the Mafia, as well as one or two policlubs. ATC, catching wind of this,
becomes even more paranoid toward competing organised crime groups. Also,
given comments that ATC has picked up, they begin a fanatical watch over
Dunkelzahn

2050s Dunkelzahn, aware of Aztechnology's scrutiny, sets an enormous plan
into motion. Approaching Renraku, he gains the use of their cloning tech
advances in return for Mafia support, to counter Mitsuhama's yak support.
Dunkelzahn then approaches Knight, promising support of Ares, and and Ares
puppet in the UCAS White House within the decade, in return for a severing
of ties with ATC and a concentrated effort to destroy invae. Knight,
understanding the threat of the invae, and having become comforatble in
his position, agrees. Ares Bughunters become feared throughout the insect
community.

2057 The election and apparent assasination puts Kyle Haeffner in the
Presidency. The dragon that everybody saw on election night was a clone,
accounting for his appearence of concern, and possible illness. Using up
several favours, and queering the karma of innumerable metaplanes, the
real Dunkelzahn summons an rather low-powered Horrow. The clone, who does
not have D's millenia of experience, is toasted by the Horror. Immediately
after the clones death, D, who had been lurking nearby in human form,
banishes the Horror, and destroys the bridge. The residue pollutes astral
space in the area. Ares/Knight has their puppet on the presidency, D has
his life, unknown to many, a legitimate corp (The Foundation), and a
continuing, excellent spokeswoman (Nadja Daviar). Through manipulation of
various agents, ATC believes the hit was carried out by their own Blood
Mage Gestalt, but do not know why. The Blood Mages believe that one of
their own number was invloved, but not sure in what way. All believe D is
dead.

Just watched the piolot of "Dark Skies" ((what did you think? uk residents
only, as the americans probably got it ages ago :) )) so where do the aliens
fit.....I want to know who gave dunki the info on the aliens.....and as the
goverments have no power ((maybe)) which of the corps is the black ops unit
working for....

ok...., i did watch all of it. I don't see it standing up to the X
files and the like in my estimation so its likely to end up on the 'i

Well they have a new explanation, though the pattern of the
conspiracy is typical. Problem with converting to SR is some so and
so Elf would get involved, and that secret facility hiding place is
not exactly brilliant.

A good thing in SR, good believable conspiracies (Even if due to a
certain previous period befor Mike Took over immortal elves got a
little too common an explanation for everything, chasing them is fun
but : that reminds me, any position on non elf immortals????).

`Em i`ve seen this guy... in Earthdawn Dragons are VERY powerfull, GREAT
DRAGONS ARE VERY VERY POWERFULL and well Vejigorm.. he kills them!!!
There is no WAY anyone could summon him unless he wanted to be
summoned...
I really cannot imagine Vejigorm the very essence of evil itself
HELPING!
anybody.. He more likely EAT Aztechnology!

Oh I'm following. And laughing at how wrong you are. In my experience, Orcs
are the most cuddly of all. (Not like Trolls, with those ugly deposits...)
Or them pointy hipped elves. And Dwarves are just plain too short.

What's that about getting the name right, Mike? :) All ED books I've read
call him Verjigorm, and the second part either Hunter Of Great Dragons, or
The Great Hunter. He doesn't destroy them, he changes them into a race
that can re-Name (and in ED's magic system, that could have dramatic
effects...).
