(I snipped a bunch of stuff you've all read before)
My thoughts are, don't believe what you see in
films. Don't believe what the gov't and agencies tell
you. Draw a line at the mid-point between paranoia
and PR spam, and you'll have something which may be
closer to the truth than the other two :)

Anyway, to boot this sucker back on topic, what has
FASA done with the various agencies like the FBI, CIA
and other popular film shadow-factories? Have they
described them in any detail? Keep in mind, I've
read very few (read: one, SR3) of the publications
after Cybertechnology. So if they've been given the
treatment in SR since that book, I don't know it :)
I ask because one of my PCs wants to play an FBI agent
undercover (recipe for disaster, I know, but I can
handle it, I hope). Any thoughts on what these
organizations would be like in the 20?? era, and what
secrets they might be hiding in the SR future?

P.S. Call me ignorant, I can take it. Just tell me,
what in heck is the NSA?

The Bureau and the Company both seem to be alive and well in the UCAS.
In other countries, your guess is as good as mine.

NSA == No Such Agency. To hear them tell the story, anyway....

It stands for "No Such Agency". It doesn't exist, it's just the pipe
dream of conspiracy theorists, who want some governmental body to
blame for everything. :)

Ok, now the real story:
The NSA is the National Security Agency. They're in charge of code
making and code breaking in matters of national defense.

Oh, they exist alright. All of our Military Intelligence assets
(well, at least the Army's M.I. folks) are responsible to & send their
intel reports to the NSA in Fort Meade, MD.

It's not just codes; it's also the tracking of foreign diplomats (aka.
spies) & WarsawPack troop deployments. Actually, all collected
PhotoINT, ELINT, COMINT, etc. all gets funnelled to or thru the NSA.

"WarsawPack"? Sounds like a wrestling 'organization'. Just a quick
correction...it's "Pact". As in, Warsaw Pact. (Now watch...I'll be wrong,
and make a fool of myself. :) )

Nopers, you're absolutely correct. Of course it's the "Warsaw PacT."

And I was being soooo careful to spell "Warsaw" correctly...looked it up
& everything ...

(BTW, better watch those wrasslin' slurs, you know how Adam can get ;-9
