Just to stick my two cents in(I promise, no more than this):

I think several good points have been made. First off, we oughta
realize that arguing about the Constitution is precisely the point. If we
can't argue about the foundations of our country and its government
without having a civil war, political discussions get kinda tedious and
_REALLY_ unpleasant. We might as well allow those interested parties to
argue back and forth at will, so as to avoid more painful and serious
consequences.

Second, as far as gun control goes, responsibility _is_ the key.
Irresponsible, ignorant use of firearms is what gets so many kids,
hunters, and others killed in accidents involving guns. The more
deliberate incidents can generally be traced to the continuing role that
violence and violent attitudes play in our society. Gun control _is_
worthless. In the same way that completely outlawing any kind of use of
forest resources anywhere in the country is stupid, outlawing the
ownership of firearms is ludicrous. Responsible use of both is the key to
solving the problems of both.

Sorry if I got a bit long-winded there, but, as I'm sure others
can tell you, I tend to get really worked up about this sort of thing.
