It seems that many gm's dont want their characters to be able to build
thunderbolts. I can understand this but as a player I would prefer a gm
to just say I dont want to mess with construction than to hand me a list
of requirements that is a mile long.

Do you guys allow your deckers to build their decks?

Do you allow riggers to build drones?

What skills do you require for either of the above tasks?

I am curious because it is completely different in the game I used to
play where the charaters built or customized 90% of their equipment. We
owned a gun, electronic, vehicle and biotech shops. It seems like
without allowing these skills to really exist it is just one more reason
to skip all the high tech stuff and just be a mage.

Yes with Electronics and other computer theory skills included in SR3 and
VR2.0.

>Do you allow riggers to build drones?
Yes with the appropriate B/R Vehical and electroics as well as and other
relavent skills in SR3 and R2.

It's no near as complex a task as building a burst fire pistol of
thunderbolt quality from complete scratch. I saddens me that so very few of
my players choose to custumize thier toys and just use the factory toys then
discard when thay feel like it and get a new toy.

Here it is again. I wonder how FASA feels having spent years and
breaking their
necks to put together the only semi decent cyberspace rules in the RPG
industry
and we relegate them to NPC status. What a pity. Thats like making
mages NPC
because "they use up too much time, always in the Astral"

I will admit that I have not looked closely at the SR3 decking
rues..but in most instances I have found that to properly treat a
decker requires more time than is prudent during limited game
time..people start getting board rapidly..with a mage things are
resolved much more rapidly..
