I agree with you on the bit about cyberpirates. The things we deal with
in the down time are kind of fun to RP things like aquiring new toys
etc. Making repairs and healing is somewhat of a bore but the passage of
time is must. I also like the idea of the D6 to repersent the weeks even
though it might not work all the time way I run things. But the idea is
solid and I think I'll start using it...

Yep, sometimes you may need to adjust it, and make it two or 3 d6, but
usually one works well. It also helps you keep a timeline straight
if your moving through FASA's "history".
Usually I let players know at the end of a game, how long the time
lag will be. (That way they know the player they just put in the hospital
still won't be out, by the next game, and can plan accordingly).
Players seem to like it and it adds continuity.
