In our campaign, the Christian Purity League came to power in the last
elections. They introduced a law that had much popular support: that
all mages had to register as such (which includes giving some DNA for
culturing (Sendings)). Any unlicensed mage can be arrested.

Now this works up to a point; and in the long run (decades) you'd have
records on say 99% of all mages in your area. So in the long run you
could control it.

Of course, no Runner is going to want to register. But it's just part
of the wealth war.

Maybe our campaign is darker than most? Shrug.

It's dark, but no darker than most. All the mages in my game are on the
run. Register? Jokin' neh?

The chances of a mage being so kind as to register depend on the mage's
upbringing. Runners just ain't gonna co-operate. So, the law'll never
have much use, except against the corps. Like a corp is gonna register
their mages? Realism, it's fun.
