So, I started a new game with a new group. I don't know why I decided
to complicate matters, but I started the players off as corporate
types.

Chris's character is a human assassin. Heather's character is a
human psion (shaman-mage). Dan's character is a human company-man.

Now then, the characters all work for Knight Errant Security. They
have been contracted out to Anderson Conduit (a microelectronics
firm). Anderson is participating in a community development program
with Health and Human Resources. The deal is that, in exchange for
basing their manufacturing operation in the inner-city, they get
various tax breaks, etc. The players have been hired as security
consultants. Their job is to make security recc. to Anderson, and
to make a report to the company that will be insuring the firm. Whether
or not Anderson gets insurance depends on what the report looks like.
Of course, the players have been told by their boss at Knight that
the report should come out good, regardless.

The assassin char. is to evaluate personal security. There have been
some threats made on Anderson management by local gangs. Physical
security is fairly mediocre, some corners were cut in this department,
and a clever (and well-equipped) team could easily penetrate the
plant.

The company man char. is to get the guards in shape. Many of the
guards are substandard: pensioners on lone from Lone Star, ex-company
men fired for deriliction of duty and drug charges, and even a few
gang bangers foistered on Anderson by Health and Human Resources from
a inner-city recruitment program.

The psion char is the team leader and is to act as liason between the
other chars and the Anderson management. She's also responsible for
helping everyone do their jobs.

Now then, things are starting to get moving (slowly). Turns out, one
of the Anderson people who was threatened is missing (kidnapped by
a gang) and the players are about to discover. The psion char is
planning on astrally checking out the plant, and has engaged a decker
contact to check out their matrix security (terrible). The only person
who isn't doing much is the company-man, Dan's char.

I suspect that part of the difficulty is because he's new to Shadowrun
(first time) but the other part is that I think that his char. type,
a fighter, is kind of out of his element. I suggested he could do
a "stress test" of the physical security (I.E. try to break in) and
that might work, but I wonder if perhaps there are some other things
I could try.

If any of you see any additional plot points that might help draw the
company man char into the story a bit more, please let me know.

I am also interested in suggestions for plot points that would require
the chars to act as a group, rather than individually.

P.S. in case anyone was wondering, "psion" is just a shamanic-tradition
mage with mental-type spells (chaos, mind-probe, analyze truth, control
thoughts, barrier), a moderate allergy to causing physical harm with
her spells, and a totem that gives here +2 dice for detection and
manipulation spells, -2 dice for combat and damage manip. spells.

[stuff on corp plots]

Well, I don't exactly have any helpful plots for you, but the mere fact that
you have assigned each character a separate task makes teamwork dificult. If
you gave them a task list then the may be inclined to work together to
complete it, rather than persuing their own individual parts of the analysis.
