I own Corporate Download, I don't own Corporate Shadowfiles.

Is it worth my time and expense to track down a copy
of this sourcebook. What can it give me that Corporate
Download can't? And has Corporate Download made
Corporate Shadowfiles redundant?

There is only a very small part of Shadowfiles that deals with the kind of
info Corp Download gave. This was a series of color plates at the back.
Shadowfiles mainly deals with how the corps function. I think the two books
are made to work together. Shadowfiles is mainly about corporate business
with a little rundown on what each corp does. Download is mainly about what
each corp does with a little rundown on how they function. So if you own
both you get the larger picture of all, but each covers both topics (just not
all that thoroughly).

So, it's worth getting Shadowfiles. It should be pretty cheap, considering
most players think Download is the update (which is kinda true). The most
I've seen it go for recently is $18. You can probably get a better deal than
that. Expect to pay around $10. eBay, as always, has two copies of this
going right now.

Not in the least. Corporate Shadowfiles has detailed information on
HOW corps work. There is a lot of different info in it.

I'm pretty sure most people are going to disagree with me (since everyone
always disagrees with me and I heard Shadowfiles wasn't too popular), but I
thought this book was pretty good. Granted, I picked it up expecting info.
on the corps, and that's not what it contained, but it was still good.

Ask yourself this: did you want to know more about the opening essays in
Download? Did the business methods of the corps intrigue you? Were you
interested in exploring the hows and whys of shadowrunning? If you answered
"yes" to these questions, run, don't walk, to pick up this book.

Better idea: I'll bring my copy along next Thursday, and you can skim it
and decide if you want to use it or not.

My verdict: Patchy. Sparkling brilliance in some bits, ill-thought-out in
others. I can only assume Nigel Findley was running on caffeine and nervous
energy when he wrote it. (It previously *was* my favourite SR sourcebook
until picking it to pieces in preparation for writing for Corp Download
kinda spoiled it for me.)

Just wondering, my Lady, what parts did you find brilliant and which
ill-thought?

Most of it's brilliant, with the exception of some of the corps. Some of
them, they just felt 'cobbled-together' - same ole same ole, you know?
Nothing special about them. Not to mention some of the writeups are
completely completely uninformative. All very appropriate for shadowy scary
corporations, but not great value for money for the buyer of the book.

Can't really remember details now, and I've gotta run; late for work again,
yay.
