Haven't bought it yet, but I saw an interesting supplement for a little-known
game yesterday: CORPS 92-93.

It's for a game called CORPS (which I have yet to see), but the back copy
says it profiles real-life corps here and now, including their activities for
last year, stuff you don't see on the news. It's touted as a good courcebook
for C-punk games, and that some of the activities described will be a little
diturbing, all the more so since it's Real Life. That last bit is probably
just hyperbole, but I may check it out if I can afford (it's cheap, but I
really have no money to spare).

Has anyone else heard of this product or the game?

Corps is put out by BTRC. All of their games are good: RPG's = TimeLords,
WarpWorld, SpaceTime, and Corps; humor/beer & pretzel = Macho Women with
Guns, and Black Death. They also put out 3G3 - Guns, Guns, Guns! (a VERY
good gun design supplement for almost any RPG)...
Corps is a good modern conspiracy game (can be humorous or serious
depending on the GM). Most of the supplements are good (I've got them
all). I don't remember this supplement that well though...

He is not trying to bring religion into this. He is merely stating a fact.
That the Morman church is one of the largest corps in the world is
scary. What if the corps are a powerful as the megacorps in SR, or
just slightly less? And let us say that this corp does not like Japan
because the majority practice Buddism and Shintoism? Can we say
"Nuke the Japs" all over again? Brings to mind the first stanza of the
Megadeth song," Holy Wars".

Does anyone know how much money it costs IRL or SR to set up a holding
company? you know the sort of thing, a tiny office out of the way somewhere
which you launder stuff through.

Let's see ... IRL ...

Here in the state of Indiana there are two costs that I know are
associated with setting up a business ...

To set up a sole proprietorship, or general partnership, you go to the
county courthouse and pay $10. You then go the IN Department of
Revenue and get a EIN (Employer Identification Number), and then apply
with the IRS for a Federal EIN as well.

To set up a corporate (Chapter S, LLC - Limited Liability Corporation,
Corporation), then you need to fill out an application and take it to
the State Attorney General's office in Indianapolis and pay a $90
processing fee.

There are other fees associated with establishing other types of
businesses (meaning licenses) but doing so to setup a laundering
business entirely depends on how much money is to be funneled every
year.

The state of choice for incorporating is still the State of Delaware
(http://www.state.de.us/corp/corp.htm), as all you need is a
registered agent (someone whom they can contact physically and confer
about the state of your business - a mouthpiece- and there are law
firms that are set up in Delaware to just this ...) .. and it only
costs $10 per business entity type.

As for a holding company, all that is is a company that 'owns' another
business, shielding the people behind the business behind another
business. Sometimes these companies can also be referred to as shell
companies as well.

Do you want to launder money or just set up a corporate shell? Those are two
very different requirements.

Financial privacy in our world is rapidly becoming impossible thanks to crap
like the Patriot Act, the OECD and the UN's worldwide tax efforts. So we can
probably assume the same crap is in place in Shadowrun, being an information
society. Tho it probably takes on a more national and corporate flavor
rather than international or governmental.

We know money laundering is still possible in SR, and probably done the same
way, but likely for shorter durations and with more complex transactions. We
know anonymous accounts exist as well, which probably facilitaties a lot of
small-scale laundering.

Setting up a corp is probably still easy, and the fees likely vary depending
on information sharing, taxation, and legal protection (similar to our
world). So you could pay as little as 10 nuyen or as much as 10,000.
