Greets,

My SR world is about to have a corp war; similiar to the one that
occured when Yama hit the scene. My question is this: What kind of a scale do
you think the Yama inspired war was fought at? How much damage to civilian
property? How open do you think they'll get? And what do you think the odds
of a succeful emergences will be?

These are the current stats for the corp:
Major Interests
Aerospace 4
Agriculture 6
Biotechnology 5
Chemicals 3
Computer Engineering 8
Computer Science 9
Consumer Goods 4
Cybernetics 4
Entertainment 3
Financial 7
Heavy Industry 3
Military Technology 3
Mystical 3
Service 4

Operations
Fiscal 9
Intelligence 9
Management 5
Reputation 5
Security 7
Magic 5
Matrix 9
Physical 6
-----
Total 101

This puts it just inside 1st tier corp rating. Thoughts?

Corp wars I have always handled this way---

A corp will not risk the lives of civilians. They cannot afford the
adverse publicity--those are CUSTOMERS we're talking about here!!!!

Corp wars will be confined mainly to the corporation enclaves and
factories--destroying the important areas of the enemy.

The opportunities in this for the shadowrunner are immense--not only
for the destruction of property, but also for "extractions", industrial
espionage, and even the occasional bit of wetwork in there.

But I think that such a war would be fought mainly with corp
employees, with the occasional mercs and runners thrown in. The
general public might not even know about it--a price war would be all
they'd ever see............

Look for Fuchi and Renraku to try to take this one out. The computer
is way to high for their tastes. And the scale could be a simple Desert
Wars battle, or out and out warfare. Most likly the first, since
Corporate Court will assess heavy fines for the destruction of Corp
property. And if this happened in a major city, much civil destruction
will result in the country's military getting involved.

First of all, if I recall from the Corporate Blackbook correctly (and
since I don't have it with me, I _might_ be wrong) there has only been
one actual corp war, and it involved an israeli corp that got obliterated
by an Omega Order. The SR world came pretty damn close when Yamatetsu
became a megacorp, but it never happened. There were a number of brush
fires and guerilla warfare, but it never erupted into full scale corp
war. I would recommend at least reading the Corp Blackbook for more
ideas. Essentially what your world would run into is hell. Depending on
what you want to do, all the shadow jobs could evaporate, or they could
suddenly become over-bountiful. There could be food riots, shutdowns of
universities (corp-sponsored remember?), hospitals, or even the whole
power grid. But his is a worse case scenario.

If you don't want a full fledged war, and just an escalation of the
normal conflict, then I think I would have toagree with someone else on
the list and say it would likely be manifested in a price and advert war.
I also have to agree that corps like Fuchi, MCT, and Renraku would likely
be those most likely to take actions against this new corp.

It also depends on just how the up and coming corp operates. Do they play it
dirty? Are their military assets plentiful? Or are they more or less legit?
Just how are they planning on making their inroads into the big 8's markets?
Do they go for the out and out asset destruction (say, blow up the fuchi
manufacturing plant), or are they more subtle (say, get dirt on the CEO's of
Fuchi subsiduaries, and use blackmail techniques to gain control)? Or are
they like Aztec, and go for the frontal military assault?

Well, it's Corp Shadowfiles that you're talking about I think, and what
about the occurance in the SR history down in Ensenada? They had full on
open war when the Aztec government tried to nationalise all businesses. What
you say makes sense though. Unless the corp is a real underhanded, then
things oughta stay primarily legit, and if they did begin to degenerate, then
it could well become nasty.
