Ok, I'll attempt an ASCII drawing of what he wanted.

/T\
/ | \ Meaning a mono-wire on the outside of hte shuriken
|--+--| blades.
\ | /
\L/

I tried to tell my player that on a fumble he's slice his own fingers off.
That wasn't 'good enough' for him, so after taking two hours to debate why
this would happen he put up his OTHER effort at it was thus:

/\___
| T
| | Roughly translated, the monowire is attached to the ends of
the
\|--+--|\ pointed shuriken blades
| | /
L \/
|_/\

Now this would throw off the balance of the thing, making it mostly useless
(staple some twine to a frisbee, you'll see what I mean.) This wasn't good
enough for him either, and he stomped away very angry that I wouldn't take
his ideas at face value and not look into them. Oh yeah, I should also
mention that this ya-who also wanted them 'dikoted', and with a power focus
so he could throw them with his cyberarm and cast 'hellblast' through them at
the target. (What a yutz.)

Hmm, how about a smartlink that puts a crosshair on whatever the gun's
pointed at? (Ok, this is an OLD one... But just a thought...)

Okay, question. If Smartlinks work on radar, can I have a device that pongs
the living shit out of the smartling?

I assumed they worked on IR-imaging or some such. Radar is too easy to
phuck up.

I figured it was a crosshair that your 'eye' sees superimposed on what the
gun is pointed at. (CARDINAL SIN!) The book says that it's a dot or
crosshair that appears in the line of fire. (I won't quote the book again,
promise.)

Fuck the book. It works.

If smartlinks would work with radar, it would be very simple to just jam
the thing. The military does the same with enemy radar installations
designed to pick up aircraft, so why couldn't a man-portable system be
jammed ten ways to Sunday?

The way I think smartlinks work, is that the gun has some sort of
laser-sight-like device and a camera. The camera picks up the dot
projected by the laser sight, and a small computer in the gun interfaces
with a computer in the skull (or in the smart goggles), and tells it
where the laser dot is located. The skull/goggles computer then projects
a crosshair in that location. It would look pretty much like in Robocop
to the user.

And another question: in SR2, a smartgun only indicates where it is
pointing (plus you can eject clips with a thought); in SR1, it also gave
ammo status, general gun condition, and so on. Did FA$A deliberately drop
this, or do the weapons still show that data?

Why not? It'd only make sense! Oh, wait, since when did an RPG make sense?

OH, I see, your Player didn't want a mono-blade, he wanted to use the
wire. . (Candle sparks into life. . .) :) Funny! Real hilarious idea,
and I *like* your answers. NO.1 is dangerous, indeed.

Yes, the second varitaion sounds more dangerous to the Character than to
the enemy. Kinda dumb, IMO. :)

Power Focus? Wierd. Dikote, yes; Mono-bladed, yes. This other stuff
is silly. I have a Character who uses mono-blade dikoted throwing
knives. They do STR + 1 M damage, nothing more. But they are true
mono-blades too.

I have drawn up an idea for an optical system that uses sensors to tell
where arm, gun, eyes and target all are, small computer in head puts it all
together. I prefer the radar idea tho, doesn't get spoofed by
Illusions. Unless they are Physical that is. Actually, I thought that
Smartlink II might be that kind of thing. Crosshairs, ammo supply,
range, and even a version that does target evaluation a'la Underground's
Pueblo Firefight program.

All in one system.

No, you'd "pong" the police and corporate goon's smartlinks too.
Otherwise, sure, it'd work, but the transmitter is real easy to find, and
the 'stars really won't like it.

Radar is easy to jam. The jamming system in the anti-radar warheads carried by
the Wild Weasel aircraft plus power supply could probably be man-portable by
2055. It's almost man-portable nowadays.

Heavy, yes, but still...I think you should be able to jam Smartlinks somehow.

If it's radar, jam it or pong it.

If it's IR, use flares.

If it's something like sonar, I don't think it'll work.

If it uses UV low-power lasers or something, reflection.
