Subject: Critter Power Question

Hey guys,

I have come across a couple of things and I want to
get some clarification on them and I would like to
thank everyone in advance for their help.

First, the Critter power Confusion. From what I have
read and seen, there is no test resist it. As long as
the critter is in the same environment and can see the
target it happens, if commanded to use the power of
course. Is this the case or am I missing something?

Second, Spirits, I am positive that the only spirits
listed with an armor rating, it shown as the attribute
score of Body (as a capital B) #/# (For example the
Afanc is listed as a 10/8), are Insect spirits. Now,
my question is this; If they have armor does it stack
with the Manifestation armor for being a spirit? (Now,
I know that this is only for True Form Spirits because
Flesh Forms do not get armor unless they wear it)

As a side question related to this, Flesh forms cannot
be banished like a true form, so, does that mean they
can be attacked normally (not using willpower)?

Final question: (This is not related to critters) This
is regarding the metaplanes, I just want to know, is
it possible that a metaplane where tech and magic work
together (similar to the Technowizard in Rifts where
guns and stuff can be made magical) and are we free to
create metaplane realms like that?

Thanks again

Dingo

That is indeed the case, except that the spirit only has to see the
target when initially activating the power. Once someone has been hit
with Confusion, the spirit can maintain it even if they lose sight of
the target (as long as the target stays within the spirit's domain of
course). And don't forget that the spirit has to share the same state
as the target.

While this is indeed the case as written, it is also extraordinarily broken and in my
opinion contrary to the spirit of the game. Critter powers should never just take effect
without giving the target a chance to at least attempt to resist them. If you want a case
where something has an overwhelming effect that should somehow be represented by a high
target number, but not a target number of infinity.

Ironically enough, this little oversight was actually fixed in the rules given in
Paranormal Animals of Europe. When they did SR3 they seemed to base the critter power
rules off of older material so maybe they just overlooked this problem. And it is a
problem. I would just use the PAoE rules if I were you.

A minor problem with PAoE's rules is that they are much more complicated by
introducing all sorts of extra options and parameters, like different
areas of effect for powers. However, if you don't mind this added
complexity, then it would pay to combine those rules with those from
Critters.
