>>>>[ Hiya again... a few more thoughts to toss up....

1. As the rules stand now, mages lose essence when they install bioware.
I know I have mentioned this before, but in my game, they don't,
merely because no one else does. They still lose magic rating,
but the magic rating is now determined by the essence rating
minus the body index. Use it if you like, I think it makes far
more sense.

2. There is another mod to magic I use in my campaign that will be a lot
more contiversial. Some will like it, others won't. Take your pick.
In my campaign, Physical Adepts use their essence rating minus their
body index to determine the amount of magic points they have to
play with. In other words, they have their magic rating WITH the
fractions included rather than dropped. Anything else dealing with
the magic rating is treated as normal - with the fractions dropped.

The reason for this is that if a physical adept buys a smartgun link, he
might as well get those cybereyes and select sound filters, because
he just lost a full point. I admit, under my system, it is easier for
PhysAdepts to get cybermods, but the point is that EACH and EVERY mod
WILL affect their abilities. No questions involved. In that case,
the guy with the smartgun link KNOWS that if he gets those cybereyes
he will lose yet another ability, and the cybernetic hearing, perhaps
yet another. I think it seems a bit more realistic.

Anyway, just a few thoughts that you can use or lose, take you pick...

I personally agree with you that the benifits seem to outway the
penalty. I do think that most hermetics wont though just because they are
devoted to the study, and utilization of magic. To them this would be a
dilution of their ability to learn and utilize magic. What you have
though would be a combat mage. One who is more concerned with getting
things done than just how good their conection with magic is. To those
people the coust would be well worth it. They would probably go ahead and
want to get just the type of package you were talking about. They might
make minor changes in the eyeware, and get optic instead of electronic mag
as the space is there.

P.S. how many of you have GM who rule that Ivisability does cover the
IR range and keeps you from using this as an easy way to see invis. Also
how many have GM's who say that you can not recognize people with
electronic mag at longer ranges.
