Actually Ahu, in my opinion, you have literally slammed this bent-outta-whack
nail on the head dead-on. The only reason that this happened was "to make
the situation of Shadowrun" what is today. Now, after what? 10 Years or so?
The players (some of us at least) are seeing the storylines of FASA coming
into a headlong collision with their own creation (that being the history).

I have personally at least, never been able to "Reverse Engineer" the why's
and how's of the FASA storyline for SR. There are just certain things, that
though they seem plausible (with or without an abstraction like Magic) to
occur, they don't make a lot of sense.

There is only ONE thing I can come up with to the answer why any of it
happened, AND have it be an answer that is "IN GAME", meaning it's a game
theory, and not a fact (the makers of Shadowrun simply *wanted* it like it
is).

IN GAME: The forces that had an insight as to what was coming are incredibly
power hungry and incredibly self destructive. They couldn't get what they
wanted once the returning power of magic arrived, as the "World Powers"
simply wouldn't have put up with, Chaos ensuing or not. Hence, they took
steps early on to reshape things. Planting the seeds of rebellion, decay,
chaos, in a manner in which they could gain a significant upper hand in the
situation and get what they would want. A state of existence where they
*did* have the upper hand.

And yes folks, I am talking about our favorite F(*)&)(*&ing individuals,
commonly referred to as the IE (Immortal Elves). And technically the Greater
of the *GREAT* Dragons as well. Sure, they may not have been able to act in
the physical world prior to the Awakenings, but I somehow think they could
have, given what we have since been informed of the IE prior to the Awakening.

Hence, there is a BIG part of me that believes quite possibly the only reason
that anything could have been performed the way it has been is by indirect,
very long term, decision making and planning on their parts.

That is all I can figure out with regards to "WHY Shadowrun is the way it is
Today".
