Subject: Cyberarm add-ins Question

A few weeks ago there was a discussion about what could be placed in a
cyberarm. And I was wondering how much nuyen and essence a datajack
in an cyberarm would cost. And how much for a skillsoft jukebox? I
think maybe you could use the DNI costs for the datajack. But I have
no idea how much for a skillsoft jukebox. Does anyone have any ideas?

Since the Fingertip Datajack listed in Cybertechnology costs the same
essence as the standard kind, I don't think a cyberarm mounted
datajack would cost any more than normal.

I suppose a case could be made that like a cyberarm mounted
smartlink, a cyberarm mounted datajack should get a discount in
essence cost. However, the datajack barely costs any essence to start
with, and is already under-costed when its functionality is compared
to other pieces of 'ware, so I don't think it really needs a
discount.

I'd say that the bulk of the datajack's essence cost comes from the
neural interfacing required, and it should be treated like the
Tactical Computer is when mounted in a cyberarm, and be given no
essence discount. At most, I'd say that an induction datajack would
get a small essence reduction, dropping the essence cost down to what
a comparable regular datajack would cost.

As long as you've paid the essence cost for a datajack for the
jukebox to feed data into (this wouldn't have to be an exposed
datjack that a plug could be yanked out of, it could all be
internalized and dedicated directly to the jukebox), I'd handle the
jukebox with the rules for built-in cyberlimb device. No extra
essence cost, and just a 4X mulitplier on the price of the jukebox.

You can put a datajack in a fingerteip compartment, so I'd say you can
put it in a cyberarm. Cost (¥ and essence ) would be the same as normal-
theres no hole in you head, but there's wires running up your neck to all
the places a datajck would normaly connect to.
Most gear just costs 4 times as much when installed in a cyberarm, so
there's your skillsoft jukebox for you. It still has to be manually
controlled and connected to via normal jacks, but using DNI explicitely
negates those problems- so its perfect for that purpose.
On the other hand, DNI ONLY interfaces with such built in componants, so
it can't serve as a "normal" datajack. But hey, you can put a normal
datajack in your cyberam, so why worry?

There may be other issues to consider once MaM comes out, but none that
directly impact on your questions above or change the answers I gave.
