OK, if you call 16 pages, "detailing", fine. More power to you.
Although the section in Pac Rim is useful, it's not really as well
thought out as some of RTG's other stuff. Look at the books they've
devoted to Europe and the UK, then compare it with 16 pages covering
Australasia and West Australia.

Pac Rim is pretty damn good as a quick reference for area, but leaves a
bit to be desired as a detailed sourcebook in general. I think the main
problem here was that the fans were asking for this type of sourcebook
so much that RTG rushed one out, when logically it could have covered
two sourcebooks and still left room for further development.

The thing I did like about the book, is that as a hard and fast
reference for the Pacific Rim, it was excellent, and a great source of
material, but as a detailed assessment of the areas, it leaves something
to be desired. As far as Japan is concerned, the BGC series of books,
is quite interesting and opens up some rather nice possibilities for
Japan, even if the tech level is far beyond Shadowrun.
