My friend got a game called BloodNet for Christmas - its got cyberware,
megacorps, and get this - VAMPIRES! Sound fun? I think so. Anyone ever run
or been in a campaign where the major bad guys are vampires (or even one where
there were vampires in it)? I think I'd like to use this idea later in one of
my campaigns.

YEP, Check out the White Wolf Systems, they have vampire, and vampire
hunter systems, and vampires are an major part of their world. Also there
are vamps in AD&D, most all of the Paladium Systems, and even our own SR.
There's also this possibility in Marvel Super Heroes System. Pretty
popular all the way around.

I've run a few situations involving the HMHVV-infected... I'll only mention
the two that are common knowledge, though, just in case my players are
reading this...

The first (in fact, this was the first SR adventure I ever ran - it took
3 sessions to complete and was thoroughly enjoyed by all involved) had the
PCs sent to find out why a corp's employees were refusing to work in a certain
facility. They went and determined that there was a ghost running about.
(Hey, this was also the first time I'd played SR; I didn't think that they
might have had some wagemages look into it and at least learn this much...)
A bit of wandering about and examining emotional residues led them to the
conclusion that the ghost was probably a corp employee who'd been murdered
on the premises. A whole lot of legwork later, they found a suspicious-
looking file on a former secretary. Going to her home (more like a mansion),
they met some servants who consistently referred to her as "the goddess".
Turned out that she was a (slighly insane) vampire who believed herself to
be divine (hey, she wwas immortal after all...). She was killed (along with
two of her three hermetic mage toadies (the third knocked himself out with
the drain of throwing a Toxic Wave and nobody thought to make sure the mages
were dead, so he came back to cause trouble later in the campaign) and one of
the PCs (who got his brains scrambled by the other PCs to make sure he didn't
come back as a vamp)) in a major battle and the PCs then brought her head to
the ghost who then, knowing that his murder had been avenged, passed from
this world... (I guess I forgot to mention that the vamp secretary had
murdered him shortly before quitting...)

The other also involved a murder investigation (note that this was about
3 years later with a completely different group of players; I don't just run
murder mysteries. :) which led to the PCs discovering that someone was making
snuff flicks. They brought it down to 2 suspects rather quickly: a European
vampire who made a living as a video/simsense artist and a human who had
previously worked for him. After the human left the vamp's service, both had
started moving around, gradually making their way from New York to Seattle -
with the human always about 2 months behind the vamp and similar murders had
been following them both. The players came to the conclusion that the vamp
was a well-concealed serial killer and the human had been tracking and
hunting him. They then gunned him down with wooden bullets. In downtown
Seattle. Just after his latest exhibition closed. On its opening night.
Between murder-1, several counts of assault and manslaughter (as I recall,
stray rounds accounted for 4-6 deaths and 7-9 injuries among the people who
were leaving with him), and other assorted charges, they're all spending the
next few years in prison... Not only that, but they had it backwards - the
human had been following the vamp and trying to frame him. The vampire was
completely innocent...

Well, those are the known vampire-involving adventures I've run. Quite
possibly in more detail than you'd wanted, but that's just me...

What systems does it run on? How recent is it?

I think it is pretty recent. I know it runs on IBMs (I hate Macs anyway)

I have BloodNet for MS-DOS, and I don't _think_ that is is made for
any other platforms. It is a pretty cool game, made by MicroProse.
Had to get it when I read the back of the box and they talked about
Cyberspace and Vampires.. Now someone just needs to do a VGA remake
Neuromancer. That was a killer game..

I never got a chance to play Neuromancer. Did it keep fairly close to the plot
of the book?

Oops.

damn right it was... too bad we'll never see another version from
Interplay. I called them a year ago and asked why they don't sell it
anymore. The answer was that the licencing ran out... owell...

Id also like to see it run on the Mac; I hate SoftPC's slowness, not to
mention the fact that all I have is the b&w version; if anyone has the
color version, please email me....

Oh, like Macs are the FASTEST computer in the world (*laugh*)! Get a life and
get an IBM compatible or a Cray Desktop and stop fooling with those stupid
"user-friendly" cuddly-feeling things.

And halt! I'm going to stop this flame fest before it even starts.
All computers server purposes. If the computer you use does what you
want it to, then use it, but don't you dare flame someone because they do
something different.

Personally, I'm still saving up for a Cray workstation, with a 100mbit
ethernet card, an I-NET link and a 50 terrabyte harddrive.
