On a totally different note of Cyberpunk Fashion, what
do you imagine the clothes people in the 20XXs would
wear? I've seen the 60s come back with tye dye and
bell bottoms and it seems as if the 1500's are coming
back with corsets and large hipped formal dresses.
Could we see a total revival of the Elizabethan style
gowns and men with pumpkin pants be in the future? Or
maybe grunge will come back, possibly the 17 layers of
neon spandex and lace of the 80s. What are your
opinions? I'd like to flesh out an upcoming game with
a little more detail than "3 guys in black come at you
with oozies." and I thought that might be something
interesting to think about. Most everyone in our group
seems to think everyone will be wearing black leather
and trench coats.

Apparently, according to the Cannon Companion, armored dresses with low-
cut fronts and backs... :)

I always picture it to be fairly the same as today, but then, perhaps that
is because I don't care about fashion at all. At any rate, you probably
won't be wrong if you simply describe NPCs as wearing shirts, jeans,
business suits, etc.

Now if you want to go into more detail, that's a different matter; you
might have to go as far as describing things like the cut of the jacket
and the decorations on it. If that's your thing, I'd say: make it up :)
for ideas, look at the pictures in the NAGRL, if you have that, at Ral
Partha's miniatures (though some of the clothes on them are fairly
ridiculous, IMO), and the art in other SR books. CP2020's Chromebook 4 is
also a very good source; Phil based his clothing system on it, but it also
has a long section with illustrations of various kinds of 2020s fashion
and descriptive text (in the style of "Jeff is wearing an Armani suit with
diamond cufflinks that perfectly match his nose ring" blah blah blah).

The first thing I think about with character is what they wear. A lot of
the NPCs I use in my games wear T-shirts and combats, leather trousers are
another favorite as are long coats of any description. One of the PCs in my
group wears bushido-style armored clothing. I know that fashion will have
vastly changed from today but I can't visualise people as being cool if they
wear stuff that confuses or sickens me; ignorance is bliss:)

The Cyberpunk take on things (I think; I have flicked through some
Chromebooks and the main book) is that not looking armored is cool. There
therefore exists a kind of armored-anticulture which parallels the gothic
look today. Thats the way I think of it anyway.

Not in my game it won't :)

I use the art in from SR books and others and show my players and
say something like "Four tall male humans emerge from the mist looking
something like this <show picture> except a lot nastier. All of them
have mirror shades on except one guy in the middle"

I think a balance needs to be struck between detail and atmosphere.

For example "The corp goon is wearing the new SecureMan suit with
falshing buttons and built in concealable holster, along with the
newest in fasion X-Shock watch (Guarenteed to resist even a rifle
round, and can actually be use as a weapon due to its enormous size).
His partner is wearing.... " and so on. However a little detail in
the right places makes it that little bit more real and atmospheric.

IMHO :)
