movies out there. It seems that the CP "gurus" heavy favor Blade Runner as
the penultimate CP movie. I like it very much, but while Blade Runner is a
great cult representation of the near future there are other movies which
can give a taste of the genre (and the Shadowrun game).
So here is my list with some commentary to go with:
1. Blade Runner (Outstanding setting with classic CP themes: futureshock,
man vs. machine, man vs. coporation, burned out hero, etc.)
2. Johnny Mnemonic (While a poor adaptation of a Gibson work, it gives a
great glimpse into a CP world and is a pretty OK movie.)
3. The Matrix (While technically I feel it is less CP and more sci-fi/near
future it gives a feel for style, which is important to CP personae.)
4. Virtuosity (See Matrix, but with more CP themes included)
5. Hackers (While a poor movie with "dumbed down" technology, meant to be
eye-candy for the MTV generation, it does give a glimpse into what a
Decker/Netrunner/Hacker does... and it spawned some good soundtracks)
The other movies you mentioned sound fine. I'll admit I haven't seen
Hardware, Strange Days, and Ghost in the matrix (Machine?), but they come
highly recommended. [Yes, I do realize that me admitting that I haven't
seen those movies makes me THWAP bait, but I will at least be honest when I
make my claim to good CP/SR movies.}
I'd like to further this discussion with the rest of the list, as long as it
is topical to Shadowrun.

Ok,
Got a brand new player coming on board. Shes not at all familiar with the
cyberpunk/shadowrun concept or even rpg's. What one movie would you
recomend her to watch.
So far i got the folowing on my list:
1) Johny Mnemonic
2) Matrix
3) Hardware
4) Strange Days
5) Ghost in the matrix
Your thoughts??
