I say they're OK for putting in without further essence loss.
The nueral linkage for these are a simple 1 bit dataline
where 0 = retract and 1 = extend. The control signaling for
these are easily as or more simple than that of a cybergun,
and other than the control input are completely contained in
the arm.
On essence:
The true purpose for essence loss due to cyber is (admit it)
game balance. It seems reasonable that the amount of cyber
someone can carry should be limited because of (insert your
favorite rationalization). I don't agree that you should get
essence back for "getting used to" cyber. One nervous system
can only handle so much. To get more than 6 essence points
worth of cyber would require massive replacement of the nervous
system and modification to the brain that 2050's biotech can't
handle yet. (In effect you would have to have so much cyber
to handle control of implants and body functions that you really
wouldn't be human anymore, but a robotic system with some
biological parts, and we don't have rules for robots (yet) ).
However, I see nothing wrong with getting essence back once
cyber is removed (some healing time of course, like .2 per month is
in order though). And there would be limitations. A massive
replacement like a cyberlimb would have to be reconstructed from
cloned parts and their removal would result in a partial restoration
at best. However, most implants don't remove that much actual
tissue, and once removed would eventually heal and leave little
more than a few interesting scars. Most simple cyber, like
datajacks/chipjacks bladed implants etc... are non-intrusive enough
to allow total essence recovery (given time). Skillwires, wired
reflexes and muscle replacements are extremely intrusive, so could
not be fully restored. Cybereyes and ears can be treated as limbs
for similar reasoning.
