Hi,
Does anyone know what would happen if you went swimming with cyberware
(Datajacks and Softlink). This has come up in my game this morning, when a
team member decided to do a header off a bridge. Thanks much.

Not much, I guess. I doubt many people would buy a datajack if it meant they
couldn't take a shower anymore :) Maybe it would cause a short-circuit if
the character plugs a cable into the datajack without cleaning it out first

Nothing at all. Remember they're installed into a medium that is 70%
water already :-)

As I said re. electrical damage, if airline pilots use rigs and datajacks,
they have to be robust enough that a stewardess spilling ice water over
the connection won't damage it. And remember again, 2050s stuff is mostly
optical.

I'd say water per say does not affect cyberware- the bits you talk about
above are probably well secured glass housings for optical data transfer
anyhow, so if they werent covered they might need a cleaning but little else.
But I remember reading somewhere that elemental water attacks could short out
smartlinks (see Grimthing, i think).
A "header" from a bridge is a different storry- cyberware is vulnerable to
damage, you have to check with a serious or deadly wound. In a circumstance
like this, i might extend that to include stun damage from head fist impact
with water. If the player didn't take damage, niether would the cyber- it is
at least that robust.

I agree with you on all accounts, but I'd like to add that
cyberware is probably one of the few things left in 2050 tech that
actually relies quite a bit on electronics. It says in ST that most wires
in 'ware systems are added with the help of nanites that build up a line
of gold along NMR "routes", which then are coated in a similar manner
(basically, anyway). However, chips and other units will probably be
optical. So short-circuits from water are a no-no, but frying by
elictrical shocks (tasers) would be plausible.
