I was listening to a BBC program last night about 1:00 in the morning,
and they were talking about advanced prostheses and such. Anyways, one
of the people they talked to was a guy named Steve Batich[sp? Pronounced
BAA-TEE-SH]. He had hooked a hawkwing moth up to a radio-controlled car,
so that when the moth tried to fly, it controlled the car instead.
He also has a device that he uses to controla wheelchair with his facial
muscles. It sounded very interesting, but this next statement really put
me on the floor.
He said, and I quote, "The only problem with using advanced
prosthetics[read:cyberlimbs] is distinguishing the signals from the
backgrond noise[speaking of electrical impulses in nerves]" He also said
that that point was no more than 5-10 years off! Sounds pretty amazing,
eh?
