Fair enough. If you're players only want to play D20, and you want to run
Shadowrun, then it makes perfect sense to try to convert Shadowrun to D20 :)
I periodically find myself think of how to convert Shadowrun to D20.
Taking classes into account is easy enough. Fighter (Street Sam, Ganger,
etc), Magician, Shaman, Adept, Rigger, Decker, and Thief. Define them by
class and cross-class skill sets, and class specific feats (especially the
Adept).
Skills are a piece of cake.
And then there's magic...
Other than figuring out that spells should be treated like skills, I
haven't gotten any farther. And I haven't figured out how to handle
drain. There are a couple of D20 conversions on the web, but in my opinion
none of them have dealt with this effectively.
Decking is easy, as it's skill based.
Rigging is pretty easy.
Equipment conversion would take a while. You might want to check out Star
Wars D20 for ideas (I also think I heard there are other D20 systems with
guns).
In general I would recommend checking out every D20 system that comes out
for ideas. The Everquest RPG, for example, has good weapon delay/haste
rules that could be applied to wired reflexes and the like.
Good luck with it. Please let me know what you come up with to handle Drain :)
