For those of you who thought that barriers provided full rating against
spells all the time, turn your eyes to this one. Pg. 150 of the SRII core
rules states, when shooting through barriers, the general rules (on pg. 98)
are used, but use only ONE-HALF the barrier rating. What happens is that
the target will add the one-half of the barrier rating to his impact armor
rating, unless the half rating of the barrier is more than the rating of
the spell, in which case the spell dissipates.
