Subject: Deadly damage overflow?

We've recently started using a rule that keeps track of damage
beyond the Deadly.

A Deadly is 10 points of damage; the idea is that if you exceed
10 + Body*2, you're dead and can't be healed in any way.

Our house rule is that each extra staging up past Deadly is like
taking a further 10 points of damage.

My question is: does this match the rule from Fields of Fire?
Does it seem excessively deadly?

FASA already has a rule for exceeding Deadly damage, it is deadly +
characters body score. If exceeding the deadly + body the character is dead,
it's on page 111 of SRII sourcebook, the 2nd paragraph in the right column,
below the picture.

In the Black Book it says that a character has an overflow equal to his
body. Each minute at Deadly he takes a box of overflow, until stabilized
or dead. In Fields of Fire, it states that if the power of an attack is
greater than twice the body of the victim, then ever two extra successes
add a point of overflow. FASA states that the damage rules are made to
not do instant kills so that players can't be killed by some surprise
attack or an attack they can't defend against.

And does this mean that every extra (2) successes for an attack over Deadly,
that isn't resisted, fills another 10 boxes of damage?

If so, it's basically only trolls that could survive - and only if the
attack staged up one category above Deadly.

The house rule I'm talking about is one in which the character can't be
Healed with magic, either. They're instantly dead, and nothing can be
done about it.

Ah ha! Thanks.

I thought our house rule seemed amazingly deadly.

[stuff about excessive damage]

Overflow = 2*body?!?!?! Oop ACK! That means Mad Cat has 36 overflow boxes!

Well, I exaggerate, but 2* body is a HUGE number. That may be your
problem. Our house system uses overflow=body and where each success over
deadly = one box of overflow. That has seemed to work fine. The biggest
problem is my stun spells are killing many people with low willpowers.
Troll with WP=1 took Deadly + 14 boxes of damage from a Coma spell (D
stunbolt, basically). Oops.

He was refering to the overdamage in FoF. Not 2 * Bod for overflow.
