So you've got a cyberdeck, huh?
Have you considered changing the appearance of said deck? Could be Muy Useful.
Picture a rocker with a deck built into an electric guitar that, instead of the
usual keyboard, you could input by playing. kewl beanz.

One of the best suggestions I've seen was to get a specially-built case for the
thing, a frame, mainly, that allowed you to use it normally but protected the
deck from being dropped, stepped on, thrown, shot (as long as it wasn't shot
through one of the acess panels) or otherwise what happens to delicate
electronics in the middle of a firefight.
Then Dikote the case so you can swing it at someone. heh.

as far as internals go, seriously consider triple redundancy, since this _is_
2055, and miniaturization is advanced enough that physical space isn't much of
a problem.

And always always always datasteal to an independent storage, an extra drive
somewhere, not to your internal memory. Too many goddam viruses masquerading as
valuable data...

Personally, my deck has the BEST case in VR, and I was thinking about coming
up with a custom type(some funky alloy with super-shock-absorbing-padding??).
Anyway, I also have some off-line storage and a vidscreen. The storage is for
swiping large chunks of goodies, but not wanting it to clog the ol' arteries.
The vidscreen was used on a couple occasions so that my teammate could yank me
out if(when) I started getting flattened by some nasty IC. One of my older
dekcs had some hitcher jacks, but I left those of the latest model.
I like the idea of that "feedback fuse". Kinda like a LED for simsense levels?
Things shoot into the red, fuse blows. But would it work right away?? I would
let the first nasty shot through and then let it blow, IMHO.

Other than all this, the other stuff you can do is PERSONALIZE your deck and
utilities. I mean, your attack(vs. evasion) doesn't have to look like anybody
else's so GO WILD!! Mine is like "hand of death/soul sucker". It lets you role-
play your decker a little more.

VR has armored cases as options for your deck - is this the same sort of
thing or something more?

This drawing reminds me very much of Grendle's weapon (from the book by
Matt Wagner). Should it, or is it just a coincidence?

Just think what a 'feedback fuse would do to your poor gm. You would be
practically invulnerable in the matrix , flaming your way out as soon as
things got too painful. It would have to work on a selective basis.

Now, the VRrules were just for armoring the case already around the
electrionics. I'm thinking of building a framework around that case, Kinda like
the cages built around submersibles.
There's another wizzer idea: waterproofing.

Yes, it should. (maybe I need to work on my art skills more)

I AM the GM, and it isn't that bad, depending on how you play the Matrix and
the human relationship to it. I think I side with most people when I say
that a man in the Matrix is analogous to a mage in astral space, and that
they react to IC/deckers/frames/etc. as if they were living things. I play
the opposition the same way...they are intelligent, dynamic entities. A
feedback fuse _will_ help the decker out, but how about a fast hitting piece
of IC that poses as a datafile, tagging onto the end of files uploaded from
its home directory, then attempting to rip the deck's programs apart and cause
the deck to cause deadly feedback through its sim-rig? gets right by the
first level of the feedback fuse (BTW, we called it the OSSA-Oh Shit Switch,
Automatic) and then plays havoc from within, and can fry a deckers brain even
worse than an external attacker...its _right there_, in your own cybered
head. Rather nasty, to say the least.
