Subject: Decker toys?

Hi.

One of my decker players has recently started to hound me about the lack
of 'stuff' availible for deckers, as opposed to other characters such as
magicians, samurai, etc. etc...

VR2.0 only quieted him down for a few days, then he began to point out
that there "wasn't really any *new* stuff" in the book. Sigh..

Is there anyone out there who has developed additional programs/deck
enhancements/little odd things for deckers? And if so, could you drop
me a line?

Any help would be greatly appreciated :>

Tai'Chara

go to the Deep Ressonance <http://shadowrun.html.com/>; and check out The
Shadowrun Archive, TSS, and the Hoosier Hacker House (reachable via the
Shadowrun Webring). The Shadowrun Archive, TSS, and the Shadowrun
Webring should be reachable straight from the first page. If not, plod
around abit; it's a great site. :)

Download the Chomebook Conversions from the Plastic Warriors web site (see
my .sig for the URL). Better yet, wait a few days for me to finish the
update to VR2.0/Rigger 2/SR3/etc. and upload that to the site. There are
enough toys in there to satisfy most people, I think.

Why not encourage him to design his own "toys" with the VR2 rules? That should
keep him busy for awhile. Especially when he has to spend the entire
development time working on a project before he finds out if it works. I have
a Decker who still has two months of programming left on a "Attack Frame"
before the character realizes that the code is buggy (the player failed the
programming roll).

A Decker's BEST toy is the Matrix- if it ain't, your not a Decker!
You can do or find almost anything there, but it is usually very
under-developed in location sourcebooks, and not used except for limited,
specific things on a run. I think giving a Decker some fun places to go,
things to do, and people to meet in the matrix would go a long way to
alleviating the "toy" demands, unless he's just upset that he can't kick
the samurais ass in physical combat. I know that I felt similarly about
playing a samurai- compared to mages (and most other characters,
actually), they are offered little in the way of social interaction or
things to do during downtime.
