Oh brother, I got a good one from this too, but then, I've done this sort of
to a player in my, now ancient history, AD$D game. Got the inspiration from
Piers Anthony and his "Incarnations" series of books.

Along these lines, and the "pet" thread that is bouncing around limply atm,
has anyone else given a "gun" or "magical weapon" to a "pet"
and allowed them
to have at it with "the bad guys" before?

I've handed to "Kenny" (the Anthroform drone in the games), a
"Quickened/Anchored Magesword" object/spell, and told it to "swing in this
area" before. Loads of laughs, so I made certain that the thing was a "Stun
Version" first. Stupid Magicians in the Astral think they can get away from
drones do they!!! :P

My GM realized how effective my iron puma familiar would be in combat
before I even made him. As an homonculus, his body has to be a special
Spirit Focus. I briefly considered making a combined Spirit/Weapon focus.
That way he'd have built-in Weapon Focus claws and teeth. It seemed a
munchkinous thing to do, so eventually I decided against it. But it
would have been amusing.

He has fought a bad guy once so far. He jumped up to defend my PC from
an attacking Physical Adept. The Phys Adept won the first few rounds of
combat (barely), but couldn't hurt the puma due to the 8 armor his iron
body supplies. The puma could really be a combat monster if my mage
would let him, but he's more valuable as a familiar than as a fighter.
