Just a quick query.
Where will I find information on the desert wars/ euro wars which is
pre-2063, I know that SOTA touches on mercs and their ops in those theatres,
I expected FoF to look at them but no dice. I have a character coming into
my game in the not too distant fucture, the player wants a merc with desert
wars experience followed by time in Yucatan and Amazonia, the latter ones I
have source material for but I have very little on the desert wars.

(BTW, for those of you that like military characters to have lots of
military non-combat skills, to the point that it isn't possible to buy all
the skills as a starting character, don't worry. The player is retiring
their former character and is gettin a good portion of the old character's
Karma to build the character up with according to BeCKS, (not a system I've
used before but it makes sense to use it for retirement characters so I'm
giving it a go.) therefore his skills are going to conform with what I've
agreed with the player are appropriate "command and control" skill levels.
Oh and he's not S.A.S. or navy Seal or Delta force or anything like that,
just a standard Royal Marine grunt...)

As far as I know there isn't much hard information on the Desert Wars. You
could just declare that the character was so busy in the desert wars that
he didn't have any time for R&R to get to know the area. As far as he is
concerned it was just another training exercise that happened to take place
in a desert and his adversary was another corp. Any specific knowledge he
would have of other corps tactics would be out of date in current game time.

While Eurowars was a World altering event, Desert Wars are nothing more then
Pay-Per-View.
Each Mega and a few smaller Corps field a small army and are sent to the
Sieherra (the big desert in northern Africa). I guess it must be something
similar to a real life version of Command and Conquer.

Specifics on tactics can be summed up in his small unit tactics skill, it's
stuff like exactly who was there, the impression I have is that all of the
triple A's were there and some others but I don't know...
I could do with a 2060's history book. k:-o

Desert Wars are discussed in:

Target:Wastelands (Pages 33-36)

Corporate Shadowfiles (page 84, 125, 132, 136 & 140)

Corporate Download (page 17)

Street Samurai Catalog (page 26):
>>>>>[Desert Wars. Now there's a concept. Let's get all the
corporations to field small armies and blow the drek out each
other in a nuclear-blasted wasteland. Guaranteed ratings
grabber.]<<<<<
-Stinger-Six <08:23:45/12-09-50>

Fields of Fire (page 17):
"To the best of my knowledge, however, the corps don't recruit
mercs for Desert Wars. If they do it at all, they do it quietly
and hope the opposing corps and the networks don't find out."

For the EuroWars I think you will have to wait for the Shadows of
Europe/Europe Sourcebook to be printed.

As far as I know from reading fof, the wars started
off by government & corps competing, looking for a
peice of you bute tech from a corp R&d lab in africa,
in the process the lab was destroyed along with now
whats considered an artifact. Media coverage was there
the majority up to this stage, people liked the gore,
so the desert wars became perverted into something
like urban brawl, details are hazy so I may be off
some (GZ)

Cheers for that. I actually have most of those books so I might even be able
to put something together. Cracking.
