Im sure some of you will be able to help me with this one.

Me and Phil have been throwing around a few ideas for a campaign set in the mid 2070's to
2080's.

Some of the new tech advances we thought of were (in no particular order)

Cloned bioware,New cyberware grades/enhanced cybermancy, and my personal favorite gene
engineered enhancedments(longevity and stuff like that I think).

These all sound likely to my own laymans ears(not laramans ears *winks to any rogue trader
players*)

Now the trouble is me and phil know a lot about nothing when it comes to "real
world" science,so if anyone has any ideas or know how about how tech would be likely
to advance in the sixth world id be damn greatfull if you'd share it with me.

Thanks in advance.

The inimitable Darren (yeah right, your just a washed up old bum. I don't know why you even
bother!)

One important thing you need to thnk of is how the world has changed in 20
years with regards to the SR Status Quo. Is everything the same but more
modern or have there been dramatic changes. THis will affect which tech has
been developed as the corporations are about money, and if they still rule
then they will mainly be concerned with what earns them the all pwerful big

What do you mean by this?

>New cyberware grades/enhanced cybermancy

You might want to think of things that blur the boundary between Bioware and
Cyberware, things that have an essense cost and a bioindex. Maybe headware
memory that uses actual neurons, or wired reflexes that have a reduced
essence cost but a bioindex.

>and my personal favorite gene engineered enhancedments(longevity and stuff

Something I thought about, bioware that was a part of the person from
conception, as well as the person being engineered to have "gaps" for
cyberware, thus reducing the essence cost. This makes for awesome cyber
assassins.

Never played Rogue Trader, but my 40k book tell me what that is...

Hmmmm, well I might be able to help with the Genetic and Biochemical stuff
(I'm doing my Masters in Biochemistry at the moment). Anything specific you
want?

Although not exactly the right tech level or era, most of William Gibson's
novels have some really imaginative technology ideas in them that would
almost perfectly mesh with what you want.

> Cloned bioware

I'm not exactly sure what you mean by this one.

Easy enough to do, but not especially creative ;-).

> and my personal favorite gene engineered enhancedments(longevity and stuff

This is a huge field, and has already been touched on to a point in SR. Have
you seen Shadowtech? Leonisation is a genetic technique for extending
lifespan. There are also a bunch of other genetech things in Shadowtech that
never made it to 3rd Edition. They might be worth checking out.

Genetic engineering can be as simple as splicing genes from other organisms
into humans (think toxin resistances, or biological armour plating and
such). It can also be as far out as customising the user's genetic makeup
(think enhanced frame strength, engineered Edges/Flaws, magical
manipulation, and so on).

It's more or less open to debate. But I would imagine that technological
advances would be driven primarily by society. If the world drifts along
nicely with no major upheavals in your 20 year timeline, then a far amount
of luxury items might be developed. If a war intervenes, then expect a lot
of military development, but probably with a couple of major tehcnological
breakthroughs that have civilian applications (there's nothing like a war to
spur on inventiveness ;-)). If you want to go for space exploration, think
low grav developmets for cyberware and such. Basically, I think that you
should start with imagining the style of world you're looking at, and then
fitting the right advances into it.

In one of the SR novels a corporation engineered a huge troll like being
from a mix of metahuman dna.
One thing they may have found by then is how to isolate and use genes from
awakend animals and combine them as necessary. Imagine a human spy with
adaptive colouration, or a unit of guards with an empathetic link with each
other, all done with their DNA rather than with magic. A huge advance would
be the ability to alter someones DNA after they are fully grown, and to have
it expressed fully.

How about things like artificial SURGE, hey maybe something else has
happened which changes everything even more.

Cultured bioware is cloned, at least the way I read it. Basic is simple
blood and tissue type matched while cultured is actually grown to suit using
retroviruses to bring everything together.

I didn't consider this, but in SLA industries if you get a genetic modification there is a
fifty percent chance that your children will inherit it,I was planning on useing that.

Who gets to live in these and how often is air traffic between them and
earth. Orbiting archologies sounds very much like Gibson, where the orbital
platforms are where the corps sit while the rest fester on earth.

This would undoubtably imply significant advances in space technology, and
associated aerotech fields. Additionally, with large populations in space,
medical, biological, food production, and such fields will have advanced or
at least veered off in order to cater for space dwelling people. Also, with
zero-g habitats that are very large and have (presumably) large full time
resident populations, advanced manufacturing in no gravity can be
undertaken. This allows advances in materials engineering to a good extent,
and could be used as a basis for explaining many other technological
advances, too.

> Seattle being annexed by the NAN(2062)

This is more political than technological, but it could have ramifications,
depending upon how messy it all was.

> and the death of lofwyr(2070)

This is very much economic. And with all the "pet" projects that the great
wyrm had going, the fallout would be as significant as the Big D kicking the
bucket. All sorts of top secret dealings and research projects could see the
light of day in the turmoil surrounding his death.

As for ideas, it might be worth chceking out some of the Cyberpunk books.
They have a tech level that is a bit higher on the scale than Shadowrun's,
and so they might fit your needs, too.

Try either flipping through (it's cheap!) or getting ahold of the Gurps
cyberpunk and espionage books (and maybe others, too). They might have the
sort of thing you'd be needing.

Shouldn't that have been "assassinated"?

I believe the original poster was talking about his home grown campaign :-)

Darren was talking about an even from an extended SR timeline he's working on, not
about something from SR's "real" history.

Note Lofwyr is noted as being geeked in 2070, shadowrun is normally set 61
years in the future so most people are playing somewhere in the vicinity of
2063.
Dunkelzhan died on Thursday August the ninth 2057 on the night of his
inauguration.
Whether he was assassinated is still however a matter for conspiricy
theorists.
The Dragon Heart Trilogy (?) of novels gives the story on what actually
happened.
