Diamond is the hardest readily available material....somer boron
nitriles are harder.
present day. 1994. DeBeers the south african diamond
miners/multinational corp have perfected a process to make
Diamond from METHANE...CH4 by heating it in inert atmospheres.
They 'claim' that the diamond is not impure enough to sparkle
and is no use in decoration, only in industrial uses.
like 'hostile enviroment windows' or really good conductors of
heat..
type II B Boron doped diamonds are used in optical computing, and
are worth a fortune.

So diamond will have millions of uses around the home by 2050

It's also very brittle, making it useful for things that require hardness
without flexability, which is damn few things.
