Hello,

I was wondering if anyone out there knew what a Dikote is? I can't find
it both on and off line. I think it is some cool thing you can do to an
edged weapon but I'm really not sure. I'd love to know if anyone can
help. Either with specific rules or a book or page I can look up, would
be great.

Thanx
Mike

Shadowtech has the information on Dikote.

Basically, it's a molecular film of diamond, applied as a protective
coating - either to make weapon edges sharper, or improve armor, etc. etc.
Check Shadowtech for more information (sorry, don't have it handy for a
page reference).

BTW, your reply-to field is overriding the list. (You can clear it in your
mailer's configuration options.)

According to Mike Hollingworth, at 3:46 on 4 Oct 98, the word on the
street was...

Dikote is a diamond coating applied to weapons, armor, and anything else
that suits your fancy (though what effects it'll have on those other
things are open to debate :) You can find it in Shadowtech, page 91, and
in short, on melee weapons it increases the damage while on armor it
improves the armor ratings. Oh yeah, and it's bloody expensive...

<SNIP>
Dikote is listed near the very back of the shadowtech sourcebook.
(With luck it will be updated in the new SR3 books due out
next year). I'm not sure of the exact page number, (my books
are at the house), but basically dikoting is diamond coating
any substance that can withstand the necessary heat involved
in the process. It's not cheap, not easy to find, but useful.
For an edged weapon like a sword it ups the wound level and
power level. The engineers on the list have debated the
scientific explanation given in the book at least once or twice
already. But in SR you can dikote swords, knives, throwing stars,
cyber spurs, and I believe even armor plating to some degree.
Hope that helps.
By the way your reply to field is overriding the list.

Dikote is found on pg 91 of shadowtech, and costs 1,000y per 10cm by 10cm
area. The exact cost of coating a weapon is up to your GM but I would say a
good rule of thumb is 2-3 times the cost of the weapon.
