Greetings,

I have a player who recently made up a character. Using some Flaws (Day
Job and Secret) he set himself up to lead two lives. By day he is a Lone
Star officer, but at night he takes on shadowruns. As of now the runs have
not involved anything too illegal, just taking care of things that the
employer can not afford to take care of himself.

The player wants to disguise himself. Has any of the books ever covered
ways one can disguise thelselves (cyber or just some other technology)? I
told him to wear dramatically different clothing, and sunglasses when
meeting with employers. While performing the job he could wear a mask (full
face or half face) or a scarf over the lower part of his face and the
glasses. However I dont know how realistic that disguise is. Would it work?
The player of course was hoping for a machine that hooks up to his computer
and makes masks (a la Mission Impossible). While that technology may exist
in SR, I just dont know that a character on his level could acquire it.

Willing to listen to any suggestions,
Aristotle, The Sleeping Op.

Well, I had a character who was a "master of disguise". He had a "disguise
kit"
which included such things as:
instant hair dyes, colored contact lenses, fake warts and horns and applicator,
fake teeth, fake folding crutches, slings, that sort of thing. I had a disguise
skill to use it and the people chasing me used perception to see if they could
track me down. I made them myself just so they'd look right. Your player might want
something like this.

I think the rules say it is taken as an aspect of stealth, which i agree before you
respond is crap. It would be more sensible to make it a special active skill. The
player has got point for the flaws as mentioned so he can afford to spend a bit on
disguise.

BTW I like the concept I may steal that one ;)

It has crossed my mind many times, especially when my character gets on the
news yet again, that there should be cyberware that can do this. perhaps you
can have chips that store specific looks, as well as a few presets. Some
kind of fibres replace the hair so that they can change colour and
lengthen/shorten by about 20 cm or retract completely for the bald look.
Sheathing on the body (this exists now?) that can change skin colour, a few
implants around bones to increase/decrease height, some kind of polymer for
faking wrinkles in the right areas, and expandable sacs implanted under the
skin in certain areas that can radically change facial features (aided by
the skin colour changer that can highlight certain areas like modern make up
artists do). Except for maybe the skin replacement and the height expanders,
it shouldn't cost too much essence. It would be extremely useful to be able
to just waltz past Lone Star as they are waiting for you to leave a building
or whatever.
One day I might even work it out, but I would rather just mooch off someone
else :)

actually if you can get acess to it there is a whole bunch of stuff in the
old Pallidium game Ninja's and Superspies about cyber diguises if u can get
your hands on it, it shouldnt be too bad to convert mainly you just need to
add essence cost. if u cant get ahold of a copy just let me know and i will
try to find mine.

Well.. I guess this is as good a time to come outta the shadows as
any time. I ain't seeing folks like Doc Doom and the original guys I
use to schmooze with on here to say hi to first...

Regarding Disguise technology - what about using the nanotech
tattoo type technology as a foundation to leap from? You want
skin tone shifts, tattoos on the face that vanish as they turn
the right pigment, - makeup can redefine facial angles - I would
gather so could the nanotech tattoos in the Man and Machine book.

Very few of them are left... There are still a few left from before I
joined the list (6 years and 3 days ago now, I just realized) but not
many.

But at least your post allows me to put an e-mail address to some of the
stuff in the NAGEE Updates article of NAGEE #9 :) (At least, I assume
you're the one who wrote articles like The Beastmaster in NAGEE 5, right?)

Heheh.. yeah I plead guilty as charged. Prolly that and my playful look
at 'Free Drones' (aka as in drones going free like spirits) are probably
still out there somewhere.

I'll have to look the NAGEE stuff up someday and see what all is there
from way back when before burn-out and life at Intel...

Not in any published issue of the NAGEE, but then I don't know what stuff
Tony (Moller) got sent that never appeared.

Anyone got any idea how much a comprehensive disguise
kit would cost, or if it's already in a book (SR3)?

Sorry for the woefully on-topic post.....

I would say a 1000 nuyen would get you quite a comprehensive kit which would
enable you to create your own facial masks, wicks and the stuff.

Just my thoughts,
