Hoi, chums. I'm a GM in a Shadowrun campaign, and one of my runners has
come up with a real poser for me... ChromeBoy has beta grade cyberlimbs
(all 4), cybertorso, and cyberskull. I know the limbs have no meat, but
do the torso and skull have the character's living skin over them, or is
there no exposed skin left to take a squirtgun hit? Thanks in advance for
any input you folks may have...

Well, did he buy any skin? They come in two models: obviously cybered
and a
"natural looking replacement". The original skin isn't there, but the
chemical doesn't
have to hit the skin, just the meat. A squirt will probably find its way
through the
limb to some meat pretty quickly (capillary action and all that - there
are bound to
be some small joins/cracks), not to mention splashing etc.

I'd say either give him a bonus to resist, or wait a couple of rounds
before affecting
him. :-)

Oh yes, and if you're going for non-lethal tactics, just imagine what a
taser would
do to him...

I always took a cybertorso to replace the rib cage and associated bones,
sort of like the replacement torsos in Syndicate. The skull replaces the
bone skull, and I think there'd be the normal skin over it. The way I
imagine one of these would be installed is to cut open the skin, peel it
away, then cut a section out of the skull and replace it by the same
section of the cyberskull. Do that for the whole head, and then replace
the skin over it.

BTW, four beta-grade cyberlimbs? 2.8 million nuyen...?

Not to mention... 4 * Beta cyberlimb (.6 essence) + 1 Beta cybertorso (? essence)
+ 1 beta cyber skull (? essence) = A whole lotta essence! Does he have any otehr
cyberware? And how much essence IS a cyber torso and skull?

Per FASA's Cybertechnology sourcebook:
Cybertorso: 1.5 Essence
Cyberskull: .75 Essence
You do the beta math. And yes, he does have a few minor items in his
limbs and some neural bioware for speed. BTW Aztechnology OWNS this
boy...

I don't remember offhand, but both are more than a regular limb. In the
1.75 to 2.25 range for each.
It's possible to do with Betaware, I calculated it out once, just for
giggles. You don't get a lot of room for much else, of course, but if you
keep adding on the attribute increases, and pay the money for 8 or so points
of hardened armor, who cares how slow you are?
Not a character I'd enjoy playing, but an interesting way to kill off a
boring evening.

Torso = 1.5 Essence, skull = .75 Essence. Just for the limbs, torso, and
skull, the total costs will be 3.75 Essence and 4,165,000 nuyen... without
doctor's costs, that is. Ouch :)

Interesting, yet it's gonna suck for this chromer. At least with this much
cyber, he's not going to have to worry about his employers practising Blood
Magic on him. Or is there such a thing as Oil Magic?

Ok, guess we all know what this is about by now.

I'd say that you've got skin, real skin, for the most part, on that
torso/skull units. I mean, otherwise they'd have you buying a wig to go
with the headshell, unless it's included. I haven't looked much at CT
(don't have it/don't need it).

I agree, the largest organ of the human body is the skin. Only if you want
the character to have major medical problems would I allow a character to
not have any skin. Dermal sheath only covers skin, Orthoskin is a weave of
kevlar into the actual skin, anything else is still real skin. You need your
skin to take in oxegen, that is why the woman in James Bond's "Goldfinger"
died, because she was dermally suffocated with gold paint.

Hmmm... I would have thought that the essence cost for the torso would be higher
(look at dermal plating!)... I guess that supports the idea that it's just a
ribcage replacement...

<grin>...

Personally, it is rather fun to see just how much cyberware you can
stuff into one person... sure, you end up with essences of .04 and such
(yes, I really do have a character with a .04 (or was it .03)
essence!), and yes, you make great targets for mages (once they find
you... not much signature), but when it comes to physical combat...
your prey may run, but it certainly can't hide!

SET CHROMEPUNK MODE=ON

Bah, who needs skin?!? I mean, what better way to instill fear
and loathing into the hearts of your enemies than to present them with
the shiny, slightly reflective, terminator-esque, leering cyberskull. Let
them gaze in full upon your titanium-composite noggin and know that you
are coming for them. Muahahahahahahahahaaaa!

SET CHROMEPUNK MODE=OFF

Sorry, couldn't help myself.
