I'll just say this: do NOT get into a group with a Shark shaman who knows
a Force 6 Toxic Wave spell...

Or if you do, I've found it is vital to follow these simple rules:

* Make sure there is always someone close to the shaman than you are;
* Make sure that there is more distance between you and this person, than
the area covered by the spell.

Of course, the good thing about this spell/shaman combination, at least in
our group, is that the shaman so far managed to knock himself out with
Drain _every_single_time_ he has cast the spell :)

I recall once playing a combat mage who had the same problem with
"Hellblast." I recall getting paid by a Johnson once, and she arranged
for us to meet her at the docks where her yacht was moored. She was
skipping the country shortly, and wanted to pay us before she left.
Needless to say, the boat had already pulled out of harbor by the
time our decker realized that the credsticks she'd paid us with were
cleverly-designed fakes. Our sniper (covering the site from to roof of
a nearby marina) was pissed, and asked the GM if the yacht was out of
range. The GM smirked, and said, "yup, the yacht's out of range."
To which I replied, "yeah, but it's not out of line of sight."
So my character turned to his partner (a physad) standing next to
him and simply said "catch me." I then proceeded to cast the nastiest,
most evil Hellblast I could muster, of course throwing *all* of my pool
into the success of the spell and keeping none for drain. It knocked my
character's ass totally unconscious, but the look on the GM's face when he
realized that I'd just cacked the Johnson was *so* worth it. I only cast
that spell twice in that campaign, and both times knocked me out cold.

[snip story]

LOL! That's a case where it's worth knocking yourself out from the Drain,
sure. Our shark shaman, though, hardly ever casts his Toxic Wave unless
he's gone in a frenzy... He's killed a bunch of innocents with it, but the
good thing is that the one time he was about to wipe out most of the party
with it, he failed both his Sorcery and Drain tests :)
