Okay, so what's the exchange rate between a dollar and a nuyen though? It
seems to me I recall the dollar plummeting or something like that.

I could be wrong, but I believe the Dollar is obsolete in SR. In my games
characters have used notes, but we never specified if this ment dollars or ¥
notes.

OTOH, the original post was referring to the cost of chain mail armour.
Apparently, chain mail today costs ~$1000. However, Shadowrun has the value
of a nuyen set to the value of a US$ in the present day (well, circa 1992,
actually, but close enough). Thus the value of a set of chain mail in
Shadowrun is about 1000Y, rather than the converted value of a horribly
inflation affected UCAS$.

I believe that's CAS dollars, not current US dollars.
1 US$ = 1 SR¥

Source = my memory pagefile Shadowrun.Miscellaneous :)

One nuyen is one real-world American dollar, but in the game world you've
got UCAS and CAS dollars. UCAS dollars are five to the nuyen, while the
ratio for CAS dollars is 4.75 dollars to 1 nuyen. This is in the NAGNA and
the Denver GM's book.

We meant modern dollars, Sinabian, for which it's
generally agreed one dollar equals one nuyen. There
are official exchange rates in either the Denver boxed
set, or the NAGtRL - can't remember which. Of course,
the simple thought of 'official' rates is a joke - but
you can use them as guidelines. And yeah, the UCAS and
CAS dollar isn't worth anywhere near the nuyen. About
5 to 1 for the CAS dollar, IIRC - and as of whichever
book its in.

Wrong, Phil. SO wrong. ;)

The dollar is the official currency of both the UCAS
and CAS - and possibly other places (like Australia).
However, the nuyen is worth more, is probably stabler
and can be used in more countries, so it's good
shadowrunner money. Also, because of its situation,
the nuyen seems to be the unofficial currency of
Seattle - officially, it's still the UCAS dollar.

My reference refers to UCAS dollars in about 2055. I also remember it
mentioned somewhere that a nuyen was about equivalent to one present-day US
dollar.
