Book 1 is Stranger Souls
Book 2 is Clockwork Asylum

visit my website for more info on these. http://users.abac.com/jkoke/

Also, I've noticed that many bookstores only carry copies of the latest SR
book, which means they might not have the first two books. If this happens,
please ask them to order the books for you. You can get them from
Amazon.com or Barnes and Noble Online, but it's better for me, and your
local bookstore, if you order it through them. They can usually have it
within a week.

BTW, this is true for any book that is in print. Most bookstores can order
any book in print. And the best thing about doing that is that when it
comes in, you get to look it over and you have a choice whether to buy it or
not. Almost all books are on a returnable basis which means the bookstore
is not charged for the books until they sell. If you order one and don't
buy it, the bookstore doesn't have to eat the cost.

Anyhow, it's sort of frustrating to visit stores and see that they have one
book out of a trilogy. <Sigh> And almost none still have Dead Air...

Eric J.: No harm done. You've more than made up for the admittedly minor
mis-type by plugging my books since. :)

Drekhead: If you can't get Beyond the Pale locally, you can always order it
from FASA, Amazon.com or (*shameless plug alert*) get signed copies from
Mysterious Galaxy. They'll mail 'em right to you. You can link to these
sites from my web page.

I don't really have any control over which stores carry my books or not. I
can exert some influence if I'm in the area and they want me to do a signing
or something, but that's about it. <sigh>

As far as future books are concerned: I just finished a collaborative SR
novel, (co-authored with Jonathan Bond). It's called The Terminus
Experiment and it's a stand alone like Dead Air with all new characters. It
involves an attempt to create a strain of HMHVV which creates vampires who
are not allergic to sunlight.

BTW, Dead Air could have a sequel down the line. I've got the story idea, I
just have to find time to write the fragger.

As far as Assets, Inc is concerned. Yes, they will become a fixture in the
SR universe. Look for them to appear in sourcebooks and novels down the
line, some of which I may write. I have several ideas for novels involving
Ryan and Assets, Inc. and even Lethe, but once again, I've got to find the
time to do it.

I'm currently working on a mainstream science thriller and it has been
occupying all of my writing time. It does have some elements which are very
SR-esque.

I want to thank Dust for the fun interview, and for including some cool
graphics. Good job. (the URL once again is

Hey, it's actually what I do for a living. Plug products, spin crisis,
manage expectations. All part of being what journalists sarcastically
refer to as a "flack." Of course, when those same journalists decide they
don't want to live in cardboard boxes anymore, they cross over and become
flacks...<evil grin>

But hey, I plug SR every chance I get.

CREATE a strain? You know, I really don't like the sound of that. But I'm
looking forward to seeing how you handle Martin de Vries and the Ordo
Maximus. Given the novel lead time, "The Terminus Experiment" will be out
next year?

Lethe? Jak, I just don't see it. I kinda like having Lethe out there in
the ether; what could he want back here...oh, wait a minute...okay, I see
where you could go with it.

Pretty good interview; unlike some other people, I didn't really have any
problems reading the entire thing.

La Jolla, eh? Since you'll be close, you thinking of attending the San
Diego ComicCon in August? I'm sure if you got a hold of show management,
they might even give you your own little seminar slot at the show to talk
about SR, writing novels and what not. I'd be there (well, unless your
time slot was up against a Star Wars sneak preview or something, sorry) to
talk shop.

Think about it. FASA could really use some sort of presence there. Okay,
okay, I could use a FASA presence there, but I'm sure I'm not alone.

Well, the name was mentioned in the TSS interview with Jak <Plug!Plug!>,
and I believe Jonathan has had some other RPG related things published..

Go for it.. Dead Air was IMO better than the first two Dragonheart Trilogy
books. Much more... 'real', instead of super-epic. Besides, gotta love

In my completely unbiased opinion <laugh>: of course the trilogy is worth
it. Also, you should read this other novel called Dead Air. How it ties
into the trilogy, I don't know, but it must somehow. Help me out here folks.
Anyway, just buy them. In fact, buy many many copies of all of them. <laugh>

Seriously, if you're worried about cost, just by the first book, Stranger
Souls. I still think you can get this from Amazon.com for under $5. If you
don't like it, don't buy the rest. Although to be fair, most of the world
secrets are kept until the third book.

My hope is that you'll be so caught up in the story that you won't be able
to wait to buy the other books. That's my goal anyhow. Hopefully, I succeeded.

Stay sharp,

I just finished reading the first book, Stranger Souls, and I have to say I
really enjoyed it.

As a GM there are a few things that bug me, i.e. the really advanced levels of
magic. If they can have them in a book you should be able to incorporate them
into your campaign which means they should have rules for them.

Maybe SR3 will cover that.

I was also wondering how does Jane-in-the-box pulls off the Snake-Eyes (Rigger
Control Book II, page 96) thing. I thought that only a rigger, or someone that
has VCR cyberware could do that? Jane, from what I can tell, is only a decker.
A damn good one, but still just a decker.

BTW, I wanted to say hi to everyone and say that I am also back. The company
that I was working for laid off 25 people. They called us in at 10:30am told
all of us, and then gave us till 11:30am to leave the building. They did give
us a really good severance package but still.....

Anyway, hoi chummers!!!

If you are interested into the plotline of Dunkelzahn, the election of
'56/'57 and the assassination, yes, it is.

As I don't think there'll be a sourcebook covering the events, this is
the one and only source available to us explaining the background on
the affair.

Personally, I don't like high-powered games, and prefer the power
level in the books at a much lower level, but for a trilogy containing
IEs, Aztlan, dragons, the president of the UCAS, horrors, and the
end of the world, it was as good as it could get for me.

And stop complaining about "expensive" - imagine what we pay over
here in Germany for those books :-(

Unfortunately, by the time you add on shipping, I can't save anything from
Amazon. I'd love to buy from them though.

Anyway, based on the few responses I've gotten, I'll probably get them on my
next payday (plus, some of my other reading will be caught up by then). And
it's not everyday that the author recommends his own book to you. :)

True enough, but imagine how hard it is for us in the US to get anything
from Germany! (If you can point me in the direction to some modern day
German military surplus, I'd be grateful. U.S.Cavalry's stuff is a bit TO
well used.)

:) I'll probably even scope out my local used bookstore to see what I can
find.

Well just to add my pathetic .2cents in, Jak I really liked your
books.. I have pretty much read every SRNovel that has come to print..
and yours are some of the better ones out there. The Dragon Heart Saga
was needless to say..ahh, interesting.. as it finally cleared up alot
of the 'BIG' Mysterys surrounding a certain big ole lizard.. Your
Characters were well described and thought out..
Hehe..Okay so it sounds like I am kiss'n hoop.. but no, really.. I
liked them alot.
