I swore I wouldn't get into this, but...
A good way to justify drain for "psi" powers is by looking at case
historys of psychic phenominon in the past(esp the "spoon benders" of
the 70s and 80s that came after Yuri Garin(?)). Most of these people
(although most proved as fakes) did complain of feeling drained after
using their "ability". IMO, this is where the draining element in
Shadowrun itself stems from- or at least where the creators got the
idea.

Yuri Geller bent spoons "with his mind," Yuri Gagarin was the first human
in space.

This is true. You also see it showing up in modern fiction.
FireStarter (The father frequently got nose bleeds). It also
appears in alot of comics.
Like most things, your body is meant to handle only so much
strain.

Well, not really. Yuri Geller was proven to be a complete hoaxster
many years later by the Amazing Randy. (Sorry, don't know his real
name).

Oh, I agree he's a hoaxter, but I disagree about him having been proven so.
If the proof was so convincing, why is he still earning a packet from Oil
companies for pinpointing new oilfields "Psychicly"

Ok, I guess I should have been more specific. The spoon bending was
proven as fake, and Yuri was discredited. But that was many years
ago. I'm not surprised that he is back and pulling new tricks. People
have short memories.

Why do you think I put it in quotes? :) I think I know which Randy you
mean, the one with the white hair and beard who makes TV shows about this
sort of stuff, right?
