Though I haven't read it yet (have it downstairs, but I haven't had time to
even look at it too much), I believe that they were made by the dragons back
in ED, or something like that. it was said in the dumpshock forums, so you
might just find it there.

Yeah, they're created/ golem type creatures. They were hidden in teh form of
human's during the downtime, apparently with no memory of their Drakiness.
(or, they were asleep until recently)

Other possibility is that they managed to finally make a breedable drake and
the curent drakes are the descendants of such.

Theres a lot of info on drakes out there, spread around a lot. the best
info source is the Earthdawn Dragons e-book. you might be able to get it
from the fasa site still, but if you do a web search for EDragons.pdf
you should find it. if you dont have any luck email me off list and I'll
send you a copy.

basically, in the Days Of Earthdawn there were only drakes that were
created by dragons through a ritual. howver, due to game developmemts I
dont know about (not enough sourcebooks!) a girl appeared that could breed
with drakes, giving them the normal ability to breed as other creatures.
it is these that are likely SURGEing, IMHO. more info on these can be
found in the dragon heart trilogy of books, but not much...

so, basically, only dragons can Create drakes, the others have been born.
ASAIK drakes are not PC types, as they are too powerfull; this certianly
seems to be the consensus, anyway....

Drakes will be covered in some more depth in the upcoming Threats 2,
including their stats and the possibility of using them as PCs (if you're so
inclined).

Yay! Well, not the PC possibility (I'm definitly not so inclined), but
the drakes themselves. Can we hope for more about the draconic society
in SR as well? Some decent coverage would be cool, instead of grabbing
ideas from Earthdawn (even if it is IMnsHO awesome material.) Dragons
have always been prominent figures in Shadowrun with little to no
background...

Draconic society? With, erm, 1 draco as of now? (afaik, of course)

Err, no, "draconic society" as "the society of dragons", not "the
society of drakes". Quite a wider pool. Drakes can't be much separated
of their big bellied masters, anyway. BTW, there are three "official"
drakes in SR, AFAIK: that pretty boy Ryan Mercury, Scales from Corporate
Punishment, and that shapechanging thingy from YotC.

of course, if you believe the hints dropped in Steve Kenson's books (not
crossfire or the burning time...the other one.cant remember right now)
they may be another one as well.... or that could be that the author was
reservibg future storylines. of course, the fact that that author is the
same one writing the drakes rules make me think....:-)

wow. that has to be the vaguest email I've done to date...

Which other one, since Steve Kenson wrote four novels total?
Technobabel, or Ragnarock? I spotted no would-be drake in those books,
and I'm usually pretty keen at that game. Well, it was some time ago, I
could have very possibly missed the hints. Do you remember the character
in question?

Then maybe the fact that Mr Kenson wrote Dunkezahn Secrets: Portfolio of
a /Dragon/, some parts of /Dragons/ for Earthdawn, was scheduled to
write Pawns of the /Dragon/ (a sourcebook about Iopos in Earthdawn, the
city ruled by Denairastas, the Outcast dragon.) and probably many other
draconic contributions in Earthdawn books may make you think more...
Dragons are obviously a soft spot in Steve Kenson's writing interests,
and I must admit that I'm quite delighted with what he has produced on
the subject so far.

If you're refering to Talon (from Crossroads, Ragnarock, and Burning Time)
then, no, he's not a drake (or Earthdawn dragon-kin, as others have guessed).
I have something else in mind ;-)

(sigh) It's a pity I never got to write that one. I was really looking
forward to it. The Denairastas were just so much fun to write about in Secret
Societies of Barsaive and I had a lot of other ideas. Still, t'will be
interesting to see what the folks at Living Room Games will do with them...

I've got it!!!

He's the illegitimate son of Bob Dragon, the porn
superstar! Bob is most well known for the size of his
trouser snake (or, as you might have guessed, his
trouser dragon, as he likes to call it). Bob's trouser
dragon even features in the Guinness Book of Records.

Talon will be crushed when he realises this is what
has been alluded to in his adventures, and will join a
troupe of travelling mime artists in a subconscious
attempt to get himself killed.

So? How'm I doing, Steve?

thank you! ragnarock, I believe it was, the elven Paladin refers to him
as "Son of the dragon" in elvish, right at the end, not to mention why
Lofwy chose him in the first place..(ie, I dont know why, but I'm not
giving out too much info in case I spoil it for someone)
