OK. On this note, has anyone heard anything (Canon or
otherwise) about Drakes (mentioned in the Dragon Heart
Saga) in terms of stats or story? Are they immortal?
IIRC, Ryan was a drake in human form, and he had woken
from those long naps that dragons take every few
thousand years a bit early (or was it late?) Any
leads about these breifly mentioned creatures. This
would make a great behind-the-scenes NPC for some
adventures I have in store for my PCs...

Go to FASA's web site and go to the Earthdawn Section. If "Dragons" is
still available in PDF download it. I haven't had a chance to read my copy
yet, but it might have what you're looking for.

I have read it, and it does have stats (for ED, of course). I'm pretty
sure they are immortal, also. Basically, they are small dragons that can
change themselves to look like any race of metahuman. In SR terms, they
would have the free spirit powers of "human form" and "aura masking",
as
well as some others, and maybe normal magical / adept abilities.

Downloaded it a while ago ... be prepared to spend some quality time reading
it. It's huge. It does however have a lot of really cool stuff about
dragons. Drakes, Hydras, and Wyverns are also included.

You can find information on Drakes in one of the EarthDawn Book's. I can't
remember it's exact name off the top of my head, but I think that it is
"Creatures of Barsaive" or something like that. I haven't got the book
myself but I have read it. I may be wrong due to the fact that I was
reading a lot of EarthDawn material at the time.

The book is "Secret Societies of Earthdawn" and the section you want is the
first one about the Dragon's Networks. Not only does it have stuff about
Drakes but about how dragons operate behind the scenes.

Actually isn't it "Secret Societies of Barsaive"? There's also a lot of
good info in "Dragons" on Drakes. Some general information on Drakes is on
pages 47-49, then each "kind" of dragon has their own variation throughout
the book.

Oops, my bad. You're right, its Barsaive not Earthdawn.

I haven't gotten a chance to look over Dragons yet, but I think I will
tonight. Sounds like good reading. I did like the dragon network for the
insight into the dragon mind, and how they relate to other races. Gives an
interesting spin to Lowfyr.

By the way, that's a nice shot of him on the cover to Corporate Download.
No preview yet, but good cover art.

OK, then my next question would be (with the little
tidbit that I already have downloaded Dragons, but
have yet to read through it) does anyone know of a
reasonably easy and pain free way to convert the
stats? What about the powers? I have not played
Earthdawn, though it sounds like fun...unfortunately
it's being discontinued diswayed me from buying the
books that my local shop had. So, how well do the
stats convert?

They are not immortal. Just long lived.

I'd be more inclined to treat them as mini dragon shape-shifters with the
ability to turn into any meta-human race.

Not easily. Strength is about the only one you can figure out readily.
Initiative systems are completely out-of-sync with one another (like
comparing SR and AD&D IMO). Other stuff you can figure out if you try. Some
things (like Magical Defense) and such you could almost use to "design" out a
given individual's other attributes if you really tried.

Me, I like to use the material as inspiration...and that's about it...

That's Mr. Darke, not Drake. (In the English version, anyway. It's
possible that he got a name change in the Spanish translation, of course.)

As long as you can make yourself understood, who cares what language you
speak? (At any rate, your English is better than my Spanish :)
