What Body/Engine does the Viper's probe use? No, this isn't just idle
speculation. I'm trying to get an idea of what's possible with drones.

I'm thinking it's a body 1 Rotor-drone (I don't think the probe has a
body higher than 1 and tilt-wing and Vectored thrust drones don't go that
low.).

If you aren't familiar with the show or the probe, there's a pic.

The engines are most likely electric..due to their silence and lack
of discernable exhaust ...

That is as close a discription you will get..

You might have mentioned the show is called Viper..for those who did
not pick that us from the context of your message..
I personally have been watching it since the original
season..although I missed most of the season with the alternate
cast..I've been an avid viewer since its return to at least most of
the original cast.. :)

Yeah, the page (Below) actually lists the engines as electric :)

Yeah but the thing LOOKS like a tilt-wing UAV ... Unfortunately it can't
be bigger than a toaster ...

Oh yeah ... The show's called Viper :)

I wish they had kept the original Inventor .. Julian, wasn't it? Though
I have to say that episode was really wierd ... I wish someone would
shoot agent Catlett (sp?) ...

I would suggest using some of Mike B's newer power plants and the like that he
put on HHJr. And no, I don't know the URL for that one, I get lost on his
side of things ;)

Now there is something I find interesting... Thanks :)

Actually, I coould not tell how big the darn thing way from the description,
but I would say that the Viper is a Body 1 roto-drone chassis with a
electrical power plant.

I've been thinking about it some more, looking at the toaster, and
reading the descripts in R2 and, its got me wondering. Why were Small
(body 1; Size of a toy model aircraft) Tilt-Wing UAVs left out? There
should be, IMO, a small tilt-wing UAV chassis and a corresponding
electric engine.

Mike, did you make anything like that for HHH/HHJr?

After some number crunching, that thing CAN'T mass more than 18 kg. Why?

<physics>
Because, the probe's engines put out 20 lbs of force. I'm assuming that
they each put out 20 lbs of force to find the maximum mass of the bugger.
20lbf (20 pounds-force) is about 178 Newtons. Now, in order to cancel
the effects gravity (ie, the sum of the forces is zero; the probe
hovers), the force from the engines would have to generate an
acceleration of 9.8 (the same as that from gravity).
F=ma
178N=m(9.8m/(s^2))
m ~ 18 kg
However, if the probe massed 18kg, then it could (controlled) fall, or
hover but not fly upwards. Therefore, the drone would have to mass less
than 18kg. Since the probe is intended to be maneuverable, let's assign
an acceleration of 3m/(s^2). substituting 11.8 for 9.8 in the above
equation, that restricts the mass to about 15 kg.
</physics>
IOW, this a body 1 drone.

Yes, there will be shortly ... now that you mentioned it. It gives me
something to do.
